:think I would not put too much money on that.
The problem with Broner is that his team got stuck in 2012. In 2013 a lot of his flaws were exposed but they ignored it.
Broner used to take a few punches but whats the problem if just a few rounds later he easily KOs his opponent?
I doubt they would have had a similar view if Broner had started at a higher weight and lacked that KO power.

His team seemed happy with his two recent performances. Ignorance is bliss until someone like Maidana punches you in the face.

  4. Before the fight I picked Broner to win via. UD (9-3 or 10-2). I’m not really overly surprised Taylor put up a fight, as I thought he would at least have his moments, but I was surprised at how the fight was in doubt even in the 12th round. I think Taylor’s stock has risen. He had a sloppy win over Mayfield and got blown out by Algieri. He put up a better performance than I anticipated.

Now for the main guy, Broner. Broner’s stock did not “fall”, in my opinion, but it depends where you rate him. I think he obviously won the fight as I can not see Taylor winning on a scorecard following the knockdown. Taylor is a decent fighter and Broner barely got by him. Technically this should lower his stock but as many of you know I was not high on him heading into the fight. I thought there were moments where Broner looked absolutely magnificent. In the 10th he landed beautiful combinations to possibly steal a close round. It showed incredibly accuracy, precision and speed. In the 12th, that left hook was beautiful. He set it up beautifully and landed it accurately on Taylor’s chin. It was a phenomenal punch.

In summaration, my thoughts on Broner are pretty much the same heading out of the fight as they were heading in. I saw flashes of, literally, greatness. This is an overused word, but Broner shows that sort of potential from time to time. At other times, he looked completely lackluster on defense and simply a little bit above average. All in all, my opinion on him has not changed. He is still a young fighter with tons of talent, but using it on the wrong things. I still think he needs to implement a higher guard and stop being like Floyd. Broner does not have the gifted foot speed or reflexes like Floyd; but he is blessed with very good speed and power. He is built like an offensive fighter and his skill set is fit for an offensive fighter. In my opinion he should play the aggressor role sometimes, like he did in the later rounds tonight, and use a higher guard. The shoulder roll **** ain’t working, and it doesn’t for most. He does not have enough lateral movement, as he is a big and lanky guy.

I scored the fight 115-112 and I think, while ti was a close fight, there should be no controversy in regards to who got his hand raised. As for what I would like to see next. I want to see Broner face Lamont Peterson, because I want Matthysse to face Garcia. Assuming Garcia / Matthysse does not happen, which it probably won’t knowing the current boxing landscape, I’m cool with Broner facing Garcia or Matthysse next. I would like to see him lose, honestly, and he would against those two fighters. I would also not mind seeing him face a mid top-10 opponent in whom he could beat, but at the same time that means we have to keep going with the overhype bull**** and Broner talking too much. As for Taylor, I’d like him to get a win next against a guy he can beat. After that, maybe target another low end top 10 guy.

Broner, once again show that if you pressure him his output will diminish....sure he. Clearly showed he is trying...but in too many rounds he got ouched, and touched fairly easy against a determine boxer....Taylor has some great skills, but also had limitations on what he can do....that said he came to fight hurt Broner in the 12, got caught with with a punch he did not see coming and paid the price of being KD in the last round clarifying the issue...

But all and all Broner is at best, a solid 140lb boxer...nothing more or nothing less...top 10 , but not top tier

Broner's mistake was taking a serious risk to satisfy ******ed fans. He could have easily cruised away from Maidana and took on anyone else yet went for the man the public voted for.

Disagree, when he fought Maidana it was well know he can't handle pressure...no one up to Maidana was able to sustained the pressure against Broner , with a physically stronger opponents Broner fights to many rounds with the back foot...you can sustain a winning fight like that Maidana was physically stronger, imposed his will, and Broner was exposed...as he fight strong 140 pounders this will be far clearer...Taylor equally strong as Broner cause issues for Broner in many rounds, even on the 12 ....

The Maidana fight was the worst corner work I have ever seen.

My point is if he was fighting guys his own size right from the beginning he would have been exposed sooner than he was and we wouldn't have had to put with his **** for as long.

Are you saying fighters should not fight people in their weight class because its to much of a risk?

No, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is clear. Broner took a major risk he could have easily passed on. Very few would have complained back then if he ignored Maidana considering almost everyone gave Maidana no chance when the fight was officially signed. Broner could have taken the "no risk" route and fought others but he decided otherwise to satisfy fans that are now insulting him for it rather than showing appreciation.

Both just exploited their size on smaller men...

Was Maidana not a mandatory though?

He would have had to drop the belt. Would have been a huge and obvious duck.

I'm not sure if he was his mandatory but even so, he could have dropped the belt and went on to another fight. Sure people will cry "duck" but he will shrug it off like he did(still does) all the hate.
