Marcos Maidana - Keys to victory

On September 13th, Marcos Maidana will get a second chance at dethroning Floyd Mayweather and handing the P4P king his first defeat. The first fight was a closer than expected affair, with Maidana getting to Mayweather a lot more than most experts and fans predicted. Chino was getting through with clean shots to the head and body, and earned a draw on one scorecard, I personally gave Maidana 4 rounds, before the fight I didn't expect him to win more than 2 rounds.

So with many saying Maidana gave a career best performance, against Floyd Mayweather who probably wasn't at his best, the question is how can Maidana improve on his last performance to do enough to win?
There were a number of things that Maidana did in the last fight that caused Mayweather problems; Maidana would have success by using his jab to disrupt Mayweather, and then he would jump in with ambush like attacks, and let a cluster of punches go, in particular he would use left and right hooks to the body then finish with a right hand, designed to take advantage of Mayweather's low left hand in his defensive posture. Clearly, for the first 6 rounds Mayweather struggled to deal with Maidana's rhythm, and was made to miss and found himself on the ropes more than he would have liked.

However, after 6 rounds Mayweather adjusted and starting backing Maidana up more and more as Chino tired, and was then able to get his right hand through Maidana's guard more regularly. In a rematch, Maidana should look to get his jab working from the first bell, and with that he can set up his ambush attacks, he should use more feinting and a jab to the body, to disrupt Mayweather and get his attention on body shots, as he did against Adrien Broner. After 8 rounds Maidana neglected feinting and his attacks became more desperate, which made it easier for Mayweather to anticipate what he was doing.

The dirty fighting was also key in the first fight, and though as a fan I don't like to see fighters break the rules to gain the upperhand, Maidana is clearly going to have to use rough house tactics to disrupt Mayweather and frustrate him. Floyd has made a big issue of Maidana punching him below the belt, but the reality is Floyd knows that this was an area of success for Chino, punches to the hip and belt line clearly disrupted Mayweather and made him uncomfortable, and Maidana is clearly going to have to employ similar tactics again.

If Maidana can maintain this level of intensity to make enough rounds close that you could give him 7, he has a legitimate shot at upsetting Floyd Mayweather and achieving superstardom. Mayweather will clearly make adjustments, but at this stage of his career, can he still box and move as he used to, I think Maidana will have similar success to what he had in the first fight, and it's going to be a tough night for Floyd Mayweather again.

I don't think the gloves really make much difference, by Maidana's own admission he was unable to land a flush punch on Floyd in the first fight. He won't be able to to on Saturday night. His key to success is activity and combination punching, not looking to load up and land single shots

Where did you get that from? If anything he seems more confident. He knows how close he came before and knows a victory is well within his capability.

During the few interviews and all access i've watched he dosnt seem to be as confident this time round i dont know maybe its just me

What makes you think Mayweather is going to get the knockout? Is he double-dosing on the Xylocaine? Is that what Wifebeatweather meant when he said he was 'juiced' in All Access? Or was he just referring to the TRT? :rofl

Its nothing he could do ,unless he hits Floyd below the belt and Floyd couldn't continue after five minutes. That's the only way he wins and his trainer Garcia would probably tell him to do some crap like that.

during the last episode of all access he and his team sounded like they were allready making excuses talking about kenny bayless (which is ****ing absurd because bayless is the best ref in the game right now)

Needs to launch more right hands especially right hooks. Also he needs to change rhythm often, if he starts fast he can't tire himself out. Mayweather couldn't get Chino off him the first half of the fight. When Chino doubles up his right hand he's also very effective, especially when he does body/head combo.

This fight is prefabricated, there is no way that Maidana can beat Void in Vegas. Void owns the judges, referee, boxing commission, etc., they would never allow Void to lose a fight and he won't. I will not buy such a prefabricated fight, the judges have already filled out their cards. Boxing is crooked as a dog's hind leg..............
