Bad performance from Calzaghe, Hopkins lost that fight for himself, doing to little, Calzaghe was busy punching holes in the air, make a fool of himself showboating, as if he was in control. In my opinion Hopkins won, the boxing in that fight came from Hopkins.
I have seen a few Calzaghe fights and I still think he fights like a school boy in the playground. All arms and cuffs with the odd proper punch thrown in,I am not surprised he has hand trouble all the time.
Possible.....but not likely. You shouldnt label fans who have strong opinions about Joe as "impartial" I don't rate him much but I have solid foundation behind my veiws. I believe he deserves the up most respect for staying undefeated but again after putting things in perspective, evaulating his fighting style and mixing in my fight game knowledge I can only call him a "Hall of Famer" at most. I think I'm being fair......possibly legendary merely because of his status at his respective weight class.
He a 43 year old man who is well past his prime. A boxer who lost to Jermaine Taylor twice. Not too mention the win was not all the convincing or dominant performance you make it out to be. Only if Calzaghe beats Kelly Pavlik will I consider him an ATG.
i thnk a lot of the hugging was a result of two awkward styles (altho hopkins seemed most willing to hold on longest) with both guys tending to jump in a lot. the low blow issue is overblown IMO. guy was hit low no doubt in my mind, whether he milked it most likely, but it was a dirty, physically draining fight, so most fighters would have.
agreed that most of the blame goes to Hops, he would dive in head first and grab on after almost every punch. Theres no excuse for the low blow acting job, poor acting at that, just bush league crap IMO.
O.K. Fair enough. You do seem pretty unbiased. I probably got a little carried away comparing him to Ali but man I respect a guy like Joe who can adjust in difficult situations and always finds a way to win.
I rewatched the HBO broadcast last night, and it was VERY clear that Joe Calzaghe won. Kellerman was sounding like a Hopkins cheerleader by times.
