Do Lewis' win over Tyson and Calzaghe's over RJJ hold any credibility?

Genuine question, while Tyson and Jones weren't at their peaks, they'd both won a couple of fights against fringe contenders leading up to it and were both dismantled in these fights?

I'm not sure how much credibility they hold but I do think people on here write them off too quickly...

I think Lewis would have always beat Tyson.

I think the opposite of Jones-Calzaghe.. That would have been a much different fight before Jones went up to HW.

    Neither were great wins though.

lewis win is worth something but Tyson was clearly on 50% by then - that said, Lewis has the tools to beat prime Tyson, I would estimate they would win one a piece. But it should have happened sooner, and could have.

Calzaghe win was purely marketing/profit like the rest of Roy's Eurobum tour, Jones was shot2****, about 25% by then. Jones when shot2**** obviously has no chance against anyone semi decent, but was still game enough to beat crap fighters like Jeff Lacy.
This fight would never have happened sooner since it was Calzaghes policy to wait till really good fighters appeared to be turning shot2**** before miraculously curing his fear of flying and facing them.

In a nutshell, Lewis old Tyson at least held some lineal weight. Calzaghe was the first stooge of Jones Eurobum tour, which he is still farcing up today.

Roy has lost every time he has stepped up to the championship level since 2004.

But was in the best possible shape for Calzaghe, I will admit that. Joe was just too much for him at that point though.

NO not at all and I'm huge Lennox fan, but RJJ and Tyson were not even on 30% of what they used to be.

consider prime ali versus trev berbick and leon spinks, he would tear them up in half the distance.

but whatever form of 40 year old ali you put in the ring with trev or leon, he will always lose. Same with Calzaghe -Jones, prime Jones kills Calzaghe, but shot2**** he will always lose.

At this point Roy didn't care about winning anymore, he was just trying to shore up money for nothing, and Joe played the stooge by pretending it held some value enough for people to pay for the fight. Calzaghe has since admitted he knew roy was way past his best, and thus that he pissed on his fans to make money from them as was his habit.

The only relevance with Lewis was that it showed the blue print he would have used had they fought earlier and it showed that he stayed at the top much longer than Tyson since Lewis was actually older than him, but the win itself was a foregone conclusion before eiter stepped into the ring. The Calzaghe fight was completely meaningless and just demonstrated what a shadow of himself RJJ had become. RJJ really screwed up badly by going up to heavy and then coming back down, his body just couldn't adapt to it. He'd have been far better off just staying at heavy.

about Tyson, tbf he never looked interested enough at 35 to even want to box anymore. I believe that though he still had extreme power, that was nothing without his dedication reflexes and skills and above all desire.

To me those wins solidify my idea of how good Lewis and Calzaghe really were.

Yes and yes. Lewis gave Tyson the worst beating of his career. Calzaghe the reigning undisputed super middleweight and lineal lhw champ fought Jones on his home turf and completely dominated him to the point he was dancing and mocking him when he was kicking his ass. He was also the first to match Jones in the hand speed department.

  12. Mike Tyson would have KO'd Lewis in his prime. Tyson with Rooney had incredible movement and Lewis pawing jab would have gotten his ass KO'd.

I think not,. Tyson was far from his best and Roy was near death ffs.
When someone say that X fighter was in best possible shape and by that i think that people think of aesthetics.
Roy in Calzaghe fight was really far far away from best possible shape.

Agree with the above posters. Limited credibility on both fights. Lewis had the tools and physicality to beat a prime Tyson, and with Emanuel Steward, he had the game plan. Before that? Tyson would have beaten Lennox Lewis IMO..I like Calzaghe as a fighter and believe that he would have given Jones a fair fight, because Calzaghe has proven himself a great fighter, and a very difficult one to deal with stylistically...but with that said...I would never expect a prime Jones to lose to Calzaghe.

Depend which version of Lewis you're talking about, cause he was stopping Vitali right in his tracks with his jab, it was probably the most powerful jabs I've ever seen anyone throw.
