The first name that came to my mind was "Elisha Obed". Getting ready to upload to YouTube his title defense against Tony Gardner and he was a completely different fighter from what he was just a few years after. Tony himself said "I sat in as a judge on one of his fights in Miami just a couple years later and I couldn't believe it was the same guy".

I'm gonna go out on a limb and propose the notion that some wires have been crossed.

Donald Curry - over 300 amatuer fights will do that
Jerry Quarry - to many tough fights and brutal sparring.
Wilfred Benetiz - turned pro so very young, matured early, got old early.
Sean O'Grady - same as Beneitz, not as naturally gifted, but a very good fighter
Meldrick Taylor - one fight did the trick vs. J. C. Chavez

Tyson was shot by 1999 when he was 32 years old but I assume more than age, a lot had to do with his poor training habits, outside the ring troubles and a general lack of desire to fight for the title and just treating boxing as a source of pay cheque

30? Most fighters have their best years in the rear-view mirror by then. Young man's game.

Marciano fans will tell you both Archie Moore and Walcott were in their absolute primes when he beat them.
