Nothing to you personally MVC but I'll use this quote because I'm seeing a lot. I'm not a Pacquiao or Mayweather fan so this is not a pointless dig at Mayweather simply because he is Mayweather. Are people really telling me Mayweather is better than the like of Sugar Ray Robinson? Henry Armstrong? Archie Moore? Carlos Monzon? Ali? Greb? Sam Langford? Willie Pep? to name a handful. That is not even mentioning Ray Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Hearns... Have an honest ponder, forget Pacquiao and the ridiculous rivalry... Really? I could see Mayweather being mentioned in lists of 15 if he remains unbeaten (like Marciano) but great fighters beat other great fighters or beat their rivals at the time. Mayweather in my opinion has forfeited any right to be named an all time great (and Pacquiao has too) by not fighting his main rival at a time when they were at their best. Just my opinion.
Even that's not true. Even in my lifetime I'd probably rank him around 5-6 in terms of skill. His defense might be among the best ever, but he sure as hell hasn't shown me the offensive skills of Duran, or an RJJ or a SRL or a Hearns or a prime Ali, just to name a few. He not only doesn't punch in combinations all that much he doesn't really have ATG power in his punches.
He's clearly not the best ever, and only an idiot would believe that this era is clean because of the boxing commissions' pathetic testing protocols. Lance Armstrong was tested far more than any boxer and wasn't caught.
Floyd isn't TBE in terms of anything to do with boxing accomplishments. He's not the most skilled and he certainly isn't the best in terms of resume. Perhaps he's the best fighter in terms of being able to promote himself and getting people like you to shell out 80 bucks a pop, but otherwise.
Pretty much. Mayweather is a great boxer, someone who has plenty of "know-how" in addition to all his physical gifts and training habits, but there have been plenty of great fighters. Fighters who showed their skills and talents against much better opposition. Time and time again, people prove Roger Mayweather's famous comment right.
I agree. Best of his generation, no doubt, but TBE. Not even close. The funny thing is the mentally weak out there go full ****** and lose their **** because Floyd calls himself TBE.
He's got some nice skills, defensively. He hasn't fought enough top quality opponents and hasn't fought often enough to put the whole package together. In my opinion, he's half only got half the package of a true fighter, if that.
