These International / Intercontinental belts - what would you say they're importance are?I know Luke Blackledge just won the WBC silver international (C.Smith holds gold) but was hoping to fight for a Vacant English titleAnd Adam Etches is doing a clean sweep of all Youth / international belts possible and can't get near BJS , CEJ or even John Ryder. But my question is, what would you compare there worth to?Obviously more than a Masters title I'd hope but I see Shayne Singleton whose already got a British Masters and International masters won a WBC belt and got a ranking with them of .37 but now he's back to fighting for a British Masters SILVER - is that not a slight step back? I'm confused!
Singleton has moved up to welter from lww so might b why his going down this route and getting some more rounds rather than doing 6-8 rounders
See what you mean, but he won the WBC belt at Welter & was due to fight a 10 rounder in October anyway. He's a puzzling one is Singleton - has the talent & ability and seems to be making all the right noises about stepping up etc - but the fact is he's now 17 - 0 and is fighting either novices or borderline journeymen - was over 18months ago since he won the English & seemed to of 'arrived' domestically.
The WBO European is another belt popular on FW shows My local newspaper described Buglioni as European Champ prior to his defeat How do you rank this belt?
Meaningless as far as I'm concerned, it's really quite simply a paper title. The true European champion holds the EBU strap. The amount of titles in boxing is a joke.
All these belts at best get you a higher ranking on their respective bodies and possibly draw a few casuals in who think they mean more. It's a massive turn off for a lot of people, it's f**king annoying.
If they can't get domestic fights or 10 rounders then way not? It increases your boxing body rankings in the process
If you win it gets you a top 15 ranking with the Organization and if you successfully defend it you go into the top 10 and so on. A good title.
I think having a few international belts to help with rankings is useful enough but there's definitely too many.
The WBC belt Joshua is fighting for in his next fight will nigh on guarantees him a top 15 ranking so they clearly have a place in the grand scheme of things. I'm not a massive fan of multiple titles/variants higher up the scale- why the WBA insists on Super Champions/Regular champions at this stage I will never know (apart from sanctioning fees). Four World Title belts is more than enough at each weight class.
