that wide punching stance in the late rounds is gonna see him get knocked out again at world level. If he just used a narrower stance and more lateral movement, and less exchanges he would do far better and waste less energy. rebrasse was a static target here, and only really caught grovesies in the middle of exchanges. but put him against better opposition and groves will be late tko'd once again, also his stamina is still questionable.
I agree, a lot of people on here seem to think Groves vs Dirrell is a gimme for Groves, I think Dirrell will stop him late on. The same mistakes were there, lazy left hook, poor stamina, losing his head, wild with the right hand etc.
Although Groves won the majority of those rounds, I wasn't massively impressed. He seems to be trying to turn into a brawler and blow people away early. Under Booth he seemed far more dynamic, and could box in a variety of styles.
I think Groves was under massive pressure tonight and much of it brought on by himself, the entrance, the comments he has made in recent weeks Also coming off back to back defeats in very high profile fights and to be fair Rebrasse was a bad opponent, a decent fighter, solid and strong but not very well known so if Groves blasted him out early it would have been "Groves fought nobody, proves nothing" and now it went the distance it will leave questions being asked. So all things considered I will give him a little bit if a pass tonight but I think he needs to rethink jumping in with Dirrell off the back off that.
he certainly needs to pace himself better thats for sure. Also his head/body movement when he's moving back from a combination is very static at times, he often just moves straight back as opposed to the side with some head movement. The stamina/pacing himself thing is definetly his biggest flaw. He really needs to look into that. On the bright side though, i think we're so used to such "gimme" fights on sky these days that when there's a genuinly live opponent in there with the Sky boys we seem to slate our lads, rather than give credit to the opponent and the match makers. We're always on here complaining that there's no 50/50 anymore. Well, tonight might not have been 50/50, but Rebrasse was no mug and was genuinely there to fight. So i think he deserves an awful lot of credit for his performance. He's one tough dude
mikel kessler would spark him, ward would break him down and finish him like he did to jawson. even abraham would do him.
I didn't see any stamina issues last night, threw nearly 1000 punches and plenty of them were power shots.
Ah Gaz come on. Im a Groves fan, but he even admitted it himself afterwards that he felt tired after the 6th. He said a few things happened in camp but he didnt want to elaborate on it. For me personally i think his pacing is wrong. Perhaps it was the fact both men never gave any ground last night. It really is rare these days to have two guys unwilling to give up the centre of the ring, and this is going to lend to tiredness. But if i was him id certainly look into a higher level of testing when it comes to his strength and conditioning. I actually read a good interview with Shane McGuigan recently and it was about some place that they use with Frampton regarding how his food affects his blood. They seem to have embraced science with the hope of gaining only a few percent. But its these extra 2 or 3% that could be the difference of winning or losing. Thats how evenly matched these top level guys are.
I'm just making the point that to throw 1000 punches and load up as,much as he does your always gonnae feel the pace, I'm not the biggest groves fan but he impressed me last night
