Groves, what a p***k

The thing I don't understand is why Groves is all over Sky Sports news and the only thing he can seem to say after his win is that apparently EVERYONE is talking about a third fight with Froch? Not only that, but he's the one calling Froch out AGAIN and claiming that it's Froch being a bad winner?! I don't remember ANYONE saying there should be a third fight from about 11pm on May 31st. Only Groves could take an ending like that and put ANY controversy around it...

Groves is just looking like a desperate fool and needs to concentrate on whatever route he was headed for and just forget Froch. The only other thing I can think of is that he's playing some sort of meta game and trying to put himself in Froch's thoughts as he tries to prepare whoever he fights next in the hope that it gets in his head somehow and makes him screw up. Still, pathetic either way really.

I always liked Groves on his way up, and always said I'd support him in any fight other than Froch,, but he's turning out to be such a weird bloke that I can't bring myself to want him to win.

He needs to sort out why he looks like a rag doll after 6 rounds, breathing out his mouth and looking weak and wobbly, and then maybe he's got a chance of a title. For the record, he beats Abraham in my opinion, because he'll be able to stay away from him - Rebrasse threw far more punches than Abraham would and Groves wouldn't stay in range and get worn down - though he'd be blowing out his arse something chronic.

There are other people out there for him and he needs to prove himself. Back of the queue Georgie Boy.

 

It is really sad if George is still chasing a Froch rematch, as said above he needs to move on with his career now.

 

The key thing about Groves is he can sell a fight - he creates controversy and noise, and this pulls in the punters. The media love it and so he gets a disproportionate level of publicity on media outlets like Sky Sports News. Publicity generates money and with all the wonga comes the world title fights and more attention, at least that's the way it works in the corrupt world of boxing. His claim that he can beat Froch may be laughable to some, but if such a claim can sell 80,000 tickets then it is a serious one.

If Groves gets a world title from Dirrell, and he has a good chance of doing so, then Groves/Froch III is very VERY viable.

Only thing I would say is up to ko in 2nd fight the rounds were that tight I couldn't really make a point for Groves winning the fight.

I used to be a big Froch fan still think he his a talent and is hard as nails in the ring. Just don't like him out the ring.

As for Groves think he should put the whole Froch 3rd fight to bed. Only way he could call for it is getting at least 2 belts. Then and only then could a 3rd fight happen/

Only way that is going to happen is Groves beats Dirrell then fights AA. Heard Groves say a lot Sauerland will try and get home advantage but why not go USA Sauerland already said the USA will love Grove style and excitement.

Only negative I can say about Froch was when he said Groves would not beat AA but Smith can. Same with Bellew lol lol. :roll:

Do think as well Sky planned Froch and Groves having verbals. Sky would love a 3rd fight

 

I agree, but you kind of took the start of my post out of context by highlighting it. My point was GIVEN he was all over Sky Sports and CAN sell a fight, he should really see that he has an opportunity to keep a big platform and fanbase even after two KO losses (please don't people jump on that and start splitting hairs...). My argument that he is turning that positive into a negative by pretending that everyone wants to see him fight Froch again, which is clearly not true , when he could use that spotlight to build positively to a new challenge with what is quite clearly a decent amount of support behind him.

Your scenario is the only one where they have a third fight. I don't think that the 2 fights are gimmes for Groves based on Saturday, and I don't think Froch will still be around by then.

If they do fight down the line and Groves happens to win, what annoys me is he'll use the win as vindication that he was right all along, and basically wipe two losses off his ledger and claim that the first two fights basically didn't count. The thing is, with Froch being either 40 or very close to it, that Groves won't get the vindication he's seeking (apart from by ridiculous fan boys) because he will simply have beaten an old man at the third attempt in what wasn't even a rubber match. Also, if he did manage the win and Froch wanted a 4th fight, you know Groves would never give it to him. He'd say something like 'Come on Carl, you're sounding desperate, I've proved I can beat you and we've sold out Wembley twice, do you really think people will pay to watch that again?' or something similarly slimy and reprehensible...

For what it's worth, I actually don't see how he can beat Froch at all, at least coming off the back of the rematch and his performance on Saturday.

I think a third fight makes a lot of sense - if and only if Groves becomes a World Champion so that the 3rd fight would be a unification bout

Froch really has little to gain from the fight - Groves isn't a good match up for him and he's already put the rivalry to bed emphatically.

It is probably the biggest pay day he can have again due to the high profile nature of the fight - it's transcended the boxing world and got the attention of the general public (I actually think the general public causal type boxing fan would be more interested in a third fight than the boxing hard core fan community)

I'm sure Frotch would be tempted by another big Wembley fight and the chance to secure another World title however (though the motivation to risk his perfect ending to the rivalry with Groves will be a big barrier to him agreeing to the fight)

I think Sky are already pushing for the third fight because of the money it generates - the whole Frotch Groves confrontation after Groves fight this weekend seemed planned and engineered to keep interest in their rivalry alive.

I don't think Groves would need to win 2 titles before he fights Frotch - just being a World champion would be enough to at least make the fight commercially viable in my opinion

The match makers at sky and match room would of course want the fight again, they stand to profit from it more than any other fight even a Mayweather/Khan or Khan/Brook fight due to it's popularity in the general British public

The question would be the fighters desire to do it - Frotch could well see it as being a non win situation and even the belt and extra money from a bigger fight not being enough to make him risk what is a perfect ending to the Groves saga and even Groves himself may behind closed doors be less confident than he presents having been so devastatingly knocked out by Frotch and not want to risk his world title and career so soon after reaching the elite level of the sport and may prefer to take easier defenses and take his career in another direction (if he does win a title of course)
