old school, flat footed, stand up boxer w/ great athleticism ... once he got out of the mindset that he could knock everyone out ... he showed that he could box very well ...

I think that his approach against Pavlik clouded the judgement of most boxing fans into thinking that Taylor was a one hit wonder.

When I think about Taylor, I think about that second fight w/ Hopkins ... now that performance was amazing ...

and if he wouldve threw some uppercuts - he probably couldve scored a knockdown or two.

I don't get it ... he can go 12 rounds ... he has a good jab and has used it consistantly throughout his career. He got distracted w/ Steward, being put under the impression that he should be knocking people out, instead of doing what got him to that elite status which was using his jab and outboxing his opponents.

He uses different angles and has a solid stance ... the biggest knock I have against him is that he fights flat footed, but thats not a big deal.

He has power in his right hand, very good speed, and decent head movement.

He has an over anxious attitude but thats not a big deal either ... now that he's with the trainer thats been with him since the begining - he should be right back on track.

Just Amsterdam and his irrational hate for Jermain. The guy has a nice jab and decent speed, but needs to work on his stamina and using that tool between his ears

Most of the top 10 at SMW are superior to Kelly Pavlik mate, the sooner everybody can accept this, the sooner they will realise that the 4 big from the current shallow MW division just aren't top class, save for in that shallow division.

Wasn't long ago that Pavlik was having issue's with Zertuche and others, despite KOing them, two wins over Taylor doesn't erase his level of ability and it showcases where Taylor stands also.

Having almost no defence at the top level is his biggest problem, and will be a major problem with the larger, harder hitting men at SMW.

Plus his power will be less at 168 also, not that it was ever a serious factor.

8 out of his 10 decision wins have been 12 rounds so I don't think that he has a problem going 12.

He uses his head and made good adjustments in his second fight against Hopkins and Pavlik.

I don't see any problem with Jermain Taylor ... he's a throw back and doesn't have much finess with his fight game, but can fight.

I think Jermain is a pretty solid boxer --

His talent has taken him to an undisputed championship and 4 successful defenses in 5 fights.

Outside of Kessler, who do you see as a threat to Taylor at 168? Andrade has a good chin and some power, but also has a leaky defence and doesn't match up in the hand speed department

I also see the WBC respects Taylor enough to have him ranked at 4

Kessler is not just a threat, he's an assured loss for Taylor.

Andrade's a major threat, while his technique is poor, he has good timing, deceptive movement, a chin that Taylor can't put a dent in and brings pressure+workrate and never stops throwing... bad matchup for Taylor, not saying he can't win, but Andrade should be the favourite with those factors because Taylor doesn't have the stamina or defence to do a job on Andrade like Kessler did.

    Bute would outbox him.

    Froch/Taylor is 50/50.

Mundine should be favoured, I'd pick him over Taylor by way of wide UD, Taylor also struggles with slick, quick fighters and that's Mundine 100%.

Then guys like Inkin, Tyspko, Braehmer are certainly live opponents that could beat him.

Premature, he has not even debuted there yet and is coming off of two losses, one at 166 yes, but to a MW, which has nothing to do with the SMW division.

A win over a top 10 SMW is recquired for a #4 spot respectively, IMO.

I really wonder what this thread would say had Taylor knocked out Pavlik in that second round!

Amaturish. Big call I know butI think alot of punches he throws are arm punches, no real shoulder behind, which really comes from his lack of footwork. He has good power, hell he nearly had pavlik out in the 2nd then punched on wasting all his punches & blew himself out. For a fighter that had been 36 rds with hopkins & wright combined, his first fight with pavlik was one i just couldn't figure out. He looked so green in trying to finish pavlik off, then again in the rematch fought alot better but still got beat by a fella whose best combo is left/right 1-2 combo's.That really doesn't say a lot about him. I still scratch my head how hopkins got beat by him, I scored both fights for taylor by 1 point, both times.
