George Groves, the most overrated fighter in the country at present. He gets so much credit for slapping round a concussed Carl Froch then getting stopped twice. I think he would beat Smith, they are at totally different stages in their career's, but I would also say he arguably isn't in the top 5 of the division and people who think he is a shoe in for a world title are mistaken.
Agree the way he cuts the ring of is world class, without even needing to throw punches he often gets opponents trapped exactly were he wants them, and has great shot selection.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear? I suppose every tall for the weight boxer has to be an upright stiff bum then Billy?
I'd like to see Callum smith vs Rebrasse, presumably for vacant European title as Groves will likely vacate? think we'll have a good idea then how good Callum is / isn't if he wins, and wins well he'd be well up the rankings too, and may have a shot at whoever wins out of groves and dirrell
Good shout. If Rebrasse is as tough as people are making out then Smith would get 12 rounds under his belt.
Static perhaps... but he was waltzing around the ring with a very high guard so a lot of shots were through the gloves. Punch stats... I think a lot should be taken with a pinch of salt. I've watched fights then seen the punch stats and they simply cannot be accurate.. ShowTime are terrible for it.
Callum Smith isn't ready to fight Rebrasse. If Groves never had the two Froch fights under his belt he could have lost to Rebrasse the other night. After setting a frantic pace Groves was tiring in the second half of the fight, but he used his experience. Callum's not got that maturity yet.
But one thing Callum has s an engine, so he wouldn't have tired like George, who was by his own admission struggling 6 rounds onwards m8. Look at Smith in his recent fight that went 10 rounds, he still had a fair bit of energy in the tank. I would strongly fancy Smith to beat Rebrasse tomorrow, would be a great learning fight and let us see we're he is at
So now Rebrasse is a great fighter who may trouble DeGale and beat Callum Smith, just because he lost all 12 rounds to Groves? Get real, Groves fans are insane, he is well over rated. DeGale doesn't doesn't have to worry about a light breeze knocking him out and Callum Smith wouldnt have to dance around the ring avoiding trading with a guy with 6 knockouts. Groves is good but has some major weaknesses.
There is no reason for George Groves to take this fight at present. He would gain absolutely nothing from it and would be a backwards step
Alright Moog! Callum might have went 10 against Biosse, but he was a journeymen and he's been KO'd by guys who are not known big punchers which suggest Callum's not the massive puncher he's made out to be. Rebrasse on the other hand is a top European on the fringe of World level. Rebrasse won the title from Muhamad Ali Ndiaye a top Italian fighter who was mandatory to James DeGale when he was European Champion. Team Degale never fancied it and vacated! Rebrasee fought Ndiaye instead for the vacant title, he got jobbed the first fight, but went back to Italy and KO'd him. Callum is a good prospect and has a bright future, but he wouldn't beat Rebrasse in his next fight IMO. Rebrasse took Groves best shots and kept coming forward, so he would walk through Callums best as well. :good
I think there's a bit of beef between Groves and Hearn, and Hearns just mind****ing Groves. When Groves split from Booth, there was an expectation he'd sign with Matchroom, and potentially be the replacement for Froch as the future SMW champ and cash cow. Groves has since signed with Sauerland which was pretty unexpected, and possibly a bit of a snub for Eddie. I'm speculating, but I don't think its a genuine offer right now and more a ploy to wind George up somehow.
I see Joe Gallagher said on an interview with IFL that he was watching George with Callum in mind. I am not saying it will happen right away but I genuinely feel his camp think he could beat Groves just now. People say zgroves shouldn't fight him, but if Groves is sensible he should want to tight him next as if fight happens 12-24 months away odds stacked heavily in Smiths favour. Durrell is allowed a voluntary defence next, so Groves will have a fight before he fights Dirrell no out. And we all know it won't be against anyone wold class as George has only one that when fighting a world champion in Froch.
