I am guessing this will be a keep busy fight for Macklin with the hope of getting Macklin a fight in Dublin by the end of the year as planned before the last Dublin show got canceled. I would hope that this could well lead to a decent fighter a real top 10 or Andy Lee and sell out the o2 in Dublin for that fight would be great Xmas present for most Irish fight fans.
I hadnt realised that was the question, Murray did better against both Martinez and Sturm imo! GGG is a beast but Macklin made him look even better. Eubank and Benn IMO would probably beat Martinez.
Couple of things. 1. Murray clearly lost to Sturm (I scored it I think 116-112, 8-4 approx) 2.muray, as we now know faced a very faded Sergio. ( and still lost. IMO the decision was right) 3. Macklin did make GGGS look like superman. You are right. But to be fair Mack was boxing out of character, to a stupid plan, devised by his then-trainer buddy Mcgirt. Retreating out of a crouch...crazy stuff...exactly what GGG WANTS you to do..atsch By the time Mack realised it was not working and was about to jettison the "plan" it was too late, GGG nailed him, game over. 4. EUBANK and benn would have had trouble laying a glove on prime sergio, never mind beating him. Cheers..:good
A very ordinary Spanish middle by all accounts. But he will see Macklin as a shopworn, somewhat faded contender with a'name'. If Yebes is really a man with ambition (as opposed to just turning up for the cheque) I fear Mack could look bad. At the best of times he tends to struggle in these types of fights. Mack has accumulated an awful lot of inactivity over the last 5 years....and inactivity is a killer for a guy with his style , particularly coming up into his thirties as Matt is. I hope Matt can get the fights (and the wins obviously) needed to make one last big push in boxing. He has been 'unlucky' in a lot of ways...maybe he is due a few breaks.....
Mack reminds me of Groves in terms of just putting everything into every punch and not having great cardio. I think he's done, in all honesty. His reflexes looked real off.
Macklin looked awful against C-Level Yebes... It seems like he was not training so hard in Marbella...
Macklin is another MW of "ours" that is not world class anymore (if he ever was), was savaged by GGG and struggled badly against a journeyman Saturday. I wouldn't bet on him beating any of the top 15 MW's and at 32 years old he is getting worse and it is now starting to show.
