I know Paddy quite well and he told me about 7 years ago he did well as an amateur but pretty much failed as a pro. He said he was never in the correct mind frame and wasn't ready. I think these experiences have developed him into an exceptional coach, and I mean exceptional. He looks at the game in a different way and really focuses on the development of the mind.

Every one who visits his gym or spends time around him really really respects and listens to the words he has to say. In and out of the ring. You would have to meet or train with him to completely understand what I'm saying.

I teach Wakeboarding (snowboarding on water) I was okay but pretty much crashed and burned at all the competitions I ever entered. It was a mental battle I faced and I never truly dealt with it, competition was never really my thing. I have now trained and helped multiple youths and people who have far far exceeded my ability at the sport, 5 of them have been British team members (it is a bit of a niche sport). I can still see things they are doing wrong and can steer them well even thought they have far achieved more than I did. I can do this because I love the sport and understand it completely. I also know exceptional Wakeboarders who are **** coaches.

I have incorporated techniques in teaching/instructing that I picked up of Paddy.

He may of lost a few fights but he is more than qualified to be operating at the level he is.

Paddy wore the t-shirt depicting his record after Froch started calling him Gavin. Don't need to be a great boxer to be good coach just like a great boxer isn't necessarily a good coach.

I will agree it is a very poor record but who knows the exact circumstances behind it.

 

Cus D'Amato and angelo dundee never boxed, manny steward never boxed as a pro I think, freddy roach wasnt the best as a pro.

I dont think it really matters as is the same for anysport

But on the other hand watching groves v rebasse I think he took a step backwards his faints head movements his angles all seem to have gone

Who cares? The company he mixes in implies he's vgood at his job.

 

Fitzpatrick's advice to Groves was spot on imo.
You're well in front concentrate on the jab forget about taking chances trying to be the first to take this guy out.

 

I remember him ssying that think it was endof rnd 10 or 11 but I arnt saying his advice wasnt good its obviously something theyve been doing long before the first bell rang groves just didnt look fluent in wat he was doing like he normally does maybe he was just trying to blast him out to impress which back fired alittle but he was taking shots he wouldnt normally take maybe he felt he could take that chance against a non puncher who knows but he didnt look as classy as previous fights

 

Listen to Paddy Fitzpatrick for an hour and then listen to Jim McDonnell for an hour. Then tell me which one you'd rather have train you.

 

Jim has always struck me as a proper gobshite ****.

 

I think that's how he comes across to most people mate.
