No, that's not my thinking. You're very good at the strawman argument -- I say pushing through discomfort can be valuable, you suggest that somehow means "all training should be just as painful as being pushed in the face."

I'm saying that you're probably not going to do so well when someone busts you in the nose or rips a body shot if you haven't trained yourself to be tough enough to push through discomfort.

I'm sure you can train without running. Hell, you can train without breaking a sweat if you choose. That doesn't make it a good idea.

Good points, but now there are ways to nullify, the nasty things that cause the problems of getting fit brings your way. Plus at the same time getting you fitter than the old ways of doing things. :D. There will be a paper coming out shortly on it im told, they are on the verge of finishing it. Makes for interesting reading. :D

Reading, yes. But I wouldn't start doing taking something as gospel because a paper says it's so ... you go back over time and you can find plenty of "scientific achievements" in the realm of athletic training that quickly become obsolete when someone else does their study and proves it wrong.

Going back to the OP, the first thing he should do is visit a doctor. If he has an injury he should get it treated ... so he can go back to training without discomfort. Sometimes finding a shortcut around an integral part of training can also mask a real injury that may need surgery or treatment.

If someone is too banged up or damaged to run, he's probably going to "run" into trouble in the ring. Last I checked, footwork and stress on lower-body joints happens in boxing.

I used to get sore knees too when I ran long distance, but since amateur fights are usually shorter spurts basically like intervals, I started to just do more shorter runs, but with more high pace.

I usually run around for 2-3 min going at 80% pace and sprinting at certain point. Then rest 1 min then repeat for 4~6 rounds depending on your stamina.

This worked pretty good for my stamina and my knee isn't sore as much, but it's important to do good warm up before running.

How about 15 years of testing, and 3 independent studys. I agree with what you say as regards papers, but it depends on the protocol, these were independent studys, not paid for. Interesting about impact and running, where do you think most impact occurs.

Virus id say long distance or sprint uphill running builds leg strength, if you can find a 2-4 mile uphill course, works the legs especiallly if you weigh a lot like 210lbs.

Or put the treadmill to 20-30 percent incline (if your treadmill is capable of it) and watch it kill your leg muscles after 5 to 10 minutes.

however i agree flat running doesnt really build leg strength.

I'm not saying uphill running and sprinting doesn't build leg strength, they're both great for it. I'm saying running 5-10 miles however many times a week at a steady pace isn't going to do **** for leg strength.
