billy nelson finished rickys career imo

now this isnt a thread to wind billy up but just my opinion on why ricky has declined so quickly since the beltran fight. ive seen loads of people saying that billy helped ricky keep his title that night. he did but imo he also finished his career at the top level.
billy will say he was doing his job but a blind man could see that since that fight there has been something missing in the arsenal of ricky an dthat is the toughness that got him through fights during his career. ricky was gritty an dtook shots against great fighters like carl johannson, alex arthur, rocky martinez, chelo gonzales etc it was only the fight before against chelo gonzales where ricky showed that toughness by taking shots against gonzales before breaking his heart and getting the win but since the beltran fight this has not been the case.
imo billy keeping him going in the beltran fihgt when ricky was obviously in agony and billy has stated he fought for round in pain and although he got a gift decision an dkept his title imo he has mentally damaged ricky an d now ricky no longer has the faith in his jaw or ability to take a shot in the ring and imo that is all billys fault.
im 100% sure that if billy hadnt been a brave coach an d pulled out ricky early on with the injury that ricky would stil have been mentally strong enough to have a decent career going forward. im also sure that they could have got a rematch with beltran considering how the fight would have ended and imo ricky would have won the rematch with beltran.
like i said im sure billy will tell you he was doing his job at the time but i would like to hear if billy would still do the same thing with another one of his fighters in that position consiedering the impact it has had on rickys career.
imo opinion that night was the night that finished one of my favorite scottish fighters and i would like to think that other coaches would have a look at what it has done to ricky and the next time they want to be BRAVE for their fighters to remember that they could not only physicaly damage their fighter but they could also mentally finish their fighter.
once again this is not a wind up thread for billy and there are lots of other coaches that would have done the same but imo a properly educated coach would be thinking about there fighters future an d not just one fight an dpuleed there charge out to live and fight successfully another day.

i really dont agree mate, a coach is also there for the welfare of his fighter and that letting ricky take punches to an injury seems to have made him very gun shy and not willing to take punches and fire back as he has done throughout his career. i really think that eddie hearn would have had a rematch clause for that fight if ricky had lost. ricky wouldn't have had to fight for so long in pain an dmight not be as mentally scarred as he looks. i genuinely believe that ricky could have beat beltran easier in a rematch where mentally it was a lucky punch rather than a sustained beating. dont you agree with that?
like i said it isnt just billy but imo you see coaches too often sending fighters out to get ko'd or badly beaten when they could have pulled them out earlier to save a savage beating. joe gallagher in the murray vs rios fight also springs to mind. john murray would have recovered much quicker from that fight had joe pulled him out a few rounds earlier.
i wonder if these brave coaches would think they were doing it right if they were at ringside watching their son/daughter getting a needless beating and the coach sending them back out to get ko'd or badly beaten.
can you really say that ricky hasnt looked mentally finished and afraid to engage since that fight ?
coaches should always remember to let their fighters live to fight another day!! like i said earlier the coach is responsible to look after his fighters well being because no fighter wants to quit.

 

yes i agree about ricky and really enjoyed watching him over the years and i also know that billy was a massive part of that but it annoys me when you see statements like. look what sims has done to ricky or ricky is going backwards under sims. freddy roach could train ricky but imo the mental scars are there and they are the hardest ones to get rid off so no one will ever be able to train that out of him. i hope billy learns from that fight and puts his next lot of boxers careers before showing how brave he can be as a coach.

 

i think if you look at the last few of their fights together it looked as if ricky was no longer listening or trusting what billy was telling him in the corner. once that trust has gone and you arent listening then there is no choice than to move on.
