I don't think hes that impressive. His defense is quite poor in my opinion. Doesn't use his height effectively either. I just don't see it.
Can see what you mean by the defence issue, but let's not forget he's only had 14 fights (regardless of how the public see it 14 is still not a lot) However his shot selection & range is immense - as for using his height effectively - he's stopped 11 of 14 with most of them coming inside 2 rounds, I don't think you can get more effective - barely wastes a shot ...
Always think it's hard to judge a fighters defence when they are put in with powderpuff punchers who are never going to knock them out. Makes you more likely to be lazy.
I'm not sold either to be honest, he doesn't cut the ring down that well imo, he follows his oppnents around the ring, he doesn't take a step to his left or right when cutting his man down. He's been getting away with it because the opponents have been poor, as soon as he get's in with a good mover I think his limitations will be exposed.
His defence is suspect. We'll see how he deals with a decent puncher. He's not ready for Groves, could see an early KO or a schooling.
He'll be a LHW soon enough I reckon. Some insane talent at that weight in the next few years. Would love to see a Joe Ward v Callum Smith fight in a few years
I get the hype because of his power what I dont get his Eddie and Joe wanting to throw him with Groves. Put him in with Rocky. Let him headline his own show massive in Liverpool I would defo go
I agree with the OP he is a very very good prospect but has already been hyped into the third best smw in the world.
I thought I was on my own. I cant see it yet. Maybe I will in time, but Im not sure what all the hype is. On a plus side its good that he is taking a bit of a step up next time and maybe that will give a greater indication
I recall years ago feeling Froch didnt cut the ring down and just followed opponents around, though I think over the last few years has changed that a bit
Hype is way, way overboard. He breaks up journeymen to the body with well picked shots, but so did John Murray. Wait until he steps up and has to show other things.
