Canelo has shown willingness to face high opposition. Trout, Mayweather, Angulo, and Lara consecutively all in the last 18 months is mighty impressive, regardless of how vulnerable he looked or how you scored two of those fights against him, etc.
If he could have made 154 comfortably, he would have done it by now to show he could. He's never fought below a 160 pound limit, so that talk is just pointless. He has fought plenty of then-"natural" Junior Middleweights, so the opportunity has been there for him.
