When Eubank was in the mood he was a great fighter. He could HIT and could take a punch. He could be outworked and unsettled, but his heart and toughness were beyond doubt. Good boxer too.
Kessler's past his prime, which I think is leading to people giving this fight to Eubank a lot easier than he truly would win. I'd pick Eubank, but it'd be a competitive fight. Eubank is NOT as good as Ward. Not even a prime Eubank. Eubank is actually overrated as all Hell. But I do think he outpoints Kessler, in what would be a good fight.
I really think this would be so one-sided. I just can't see Mikkel doing anything with him! He's made for Eubank with his square, straight-up, hands-up, basic, one-paced style - Eubank constantly changed angle, direction and pace, often just out of range and could never be touched with a lead left jab, such was his subtle, timed OR reactive head slips. When you stand in front of Eubank like Kessler would, the guy just loved to pick his shots and pick you off, and single-potshotted OR flash-flurried as well as anyone at his best - I don't see what Mikkel can do really. Eubank 120-108.
Browsing I saw this old post and brought it back into play You would have to strongly favour Eubank with the greater pedigree, experience and boxing ability. I think prime for prime, Eubank would run out a clear points win
Eubank was troubled by boxers with less talent than Kessler. Kessler was never troubled by types like Eubank. Both Froch and Calzaghe are different types - Ward is the greatest spoiler of all. Kessler by decision or late round stoppage.
Sorry I voted for Kessler but what bull**** is this? Who the **** stops Chris Eubank Sr at Middleweight? Eubank could take Cruiser weight power!
prime eubie wins this by a hair, however Kessler has a longer prime than eubie, so in a best of three I think mikkel will draw the 2nd and will take the 3rd by decision - assuming they fight over 3-4 years..
Bloody hell! This is a joke, right?! There is NOTHING that Eubank does in the ring that is superior to Kessler, other than post. Kessler has the better jab, better footwork, more power, equal variety but with far better timing. Oh yes, and his punches are sharper, straighter and faster. Eubank would be lucky to win a 15 second segment of any round on the way to an absolute pasting where here are a couple of 10-8 rounds to Kessler due to pure dominance late on. Keep in mind that this would be no great achievement for Kessler.
