    Jack Johnson and Sullivan fought 40 rounds. Or did they throw like 3 punches per rounds or something?

    That was pre wallsits era. One of the defining principles of wallsits is that it allows you to fight at 100% for 12 rounds, that is why the fights were shortened from 15 to 12.

    The ref helped out back in the day , you had to stop breathing to end the fight or the ref would pick you up and count as slow as i takes for you to recover and carry on
