Ricard had a really bad demise in life after boxing. Living on the street, died in a Salvation Army hostel and they thought it was murder if I remember correctly

Richie evatt. Not sure what happened about the murder case? I know people who knew richie before he fought for a world title and he was known for fighting in bars etc and sparking big meatheads just because.
Shame that it all went wrong with drugs etc

It's a well tread story in boxing since back in the bare knuckle days.

His life certainly spiraled out of control after boxing. But he certainly had issues during his career also as stated above.

Tragic what happened to him. I'm not sure they ever found out what the cause of death was.

Some of the comments on this video (and others I've read too) give a little insight to what he was like as a person. Some say he was a lovely guy, others that he was a bit nasty. Sounds to me like he was a good guy but he could turn the other way when intoxicated with drink or drugs.

He was great to watch and he could really crack with both hands. I wonder if he was drinking heavily and doing hard drugs all throughout his career?

Must have been gutted to lose like that after doing so well against Jones.

I went to the same school as rich, although didn't really know him that well. He was always fighting and had a bit of a mean streak back then, but if you were a friend or family he would fight to the death for you.
Rich had an addictive personality. Loved boxing, loved fighting, loved his family, but unfortunately also loved the drink and drugs.
Only saw him once as an adult, hitting the heavy bag in the gym. He could really bang with both hands, unbelievable power for his size

Interesting. Thanks for the info. So it appears he was always a bit like that even as a youngster.

Yeah, he hit ridiculously hard for his size.

He was wrote off and really came out of nowhere up to world level to put in a real top draw effort against Jones.

He was unlucky that night after doing so well to get stopped late on, great left hook from Jones.

Evatt was a banger that's for sure.
