    Rademacher, Spinks, Ross if it's credited as a title defense. How bout Jeffries? It may seem absurd to say because he was so good in his prime but a title fight as your first fight back at age 35 after a six year lay off is pretty crazy. He actually did ok considering but the performance isn't what is judged. People are more astute today, in that era ppl felt he could step back in and not miss a beat.

    Nah. While Jeffries had no business in the ring with Johnson, a former world champion who had never lost and worked as hard as he did to get back into reasonable shape is hardly the worst man to get a crack at a title. Rademacher, Wepner, Roper, Zanon and a fair number of others would all fall below that.

    tony ross went into his shot with a horrible record


    johnny paychek was well named. he has a record full of people ive not heard of, plus a shot at louis's belt.


    jean-marc mormek was wlads worst challenger imo, too small, too old, too everything.

    Yes some of Burns "challengers" were pretty poor.

    Frazier's two in 1973. Ron Stander and forget the other guy's name. I think it was Standers that was beaten by friggin' Cleveland Williams after the Frazier fight. Not that it necessarily matters in this context, but still gives some indication of how bad he was.

    And Foreman's first challenger. Roman something?

    Don't know Louis's challengers that well, but he went through so many in so short time that there must have been some bad ones there.

    Someone mentioned Jeffries - but he was ironically perhaps the most deserving of Johnson's challengers.

    How about Carpentier?

    Didn't Charles have some dodgy challengers as well?

    Had Michael Spinks a single HW win before Holmes? Even a CW one?

    Same with Jones, of course, but that was just a strap.
