Old Foreman would have been roughly handled by pretty much any lineal champion who wasnt Michael Moorer. It is a testament to the awe that he inspired in his prime, that some people seriously think that he could have beaten Mike Tyson in his 40s.
There are three possibilities. The story might be apocryphal. Tyson might not have wanted to beat up on an old George Foreman. Tyson might have been as mesmerised by Foremans reputation, as many on this site, and genuinely have been afraid of him. Whatever the case it doesnt change what old Foreman was. If some 25 year old fighter had come along in that era, and got the same results vs the same people as old Foreman, you would not even be able to get the most vitriolic Tyson critic to pick him over Tyson.
He didn't do bad in losing against a prime Holyfield who was a better fighter than Tyson could ever be. Mike Tyson seriously thought Foreman could beat him hence the "I'm not fighting that ****ing animal!" rant at Don King.
Well that older Foreman did well against a prime Holyfield that's for sure. Tyson didn't even fight too many 40+ fighters if I can recall. Who cares if either of them was afraid anyway, that doesn't change the fact that Tyson's style was made for Foreman, Cus knew it and so did Mike.
If it's true he said that to Don King which it probably is then I imagine it was said in jest out of respect for the former champion. One thing is for certain Tyson had changed his mind by the time Mike Marley interviewed him in late 1990.
Each and every fight is different, Hatton and Tszyu have no relevance to that matter, look at what old Foreman did to Bert Cooper who was similar to Tyson.
