Do you think Beterbiev, who has boxed his whole life.is learning new magical skills at age of 30? What excatly Beterbiev learned in Cloud fight?we learned that Beterbiev is definetly top 15 fighter in 175pounds.Beterbiev probably learned that he can KO top rated fighter outside of sparring also. Kovalev has mostly beaten all of his opponents relatively quick, and Hopkins fight was the first he learned,he can go 12rounds. That's the only difference right now between Kovalev and Beterbiev. Both are highly skilled fighters,Beterbiev has already closely beaten Kovalev in amateurs.his confidence is probably sky high already. I don't understand why people want to see top fighters wasting prime years fighting inferior opposition. I would like to see Beterbiev next year against Kovalev or Stevenson. Beterbiev gains nothing fighting by fighting Cloud of the worlds and crushing them inside couple of rounds. Cloud was probably ranked near TOP 10 at the time of fight.that should tell you something about Beterbiev.numbers of fights don't determine are you ready or not. See Lomachenko,Rigondeaux etc.. Beterbiev will be fine,no need to protect the man,he deserves the chance. I wouldn't complain if after Page,Beterbiev would get title shot.neither should you.
We're judging Beterbiev off the back of an impressive performance against an absolute bum in Cloud. I like the look of him and I can see why people like him, but it's too early to make that call - put him in with a Pascal or something first. Wouldn't be shocked if he was the one to dethrone Stevenson though.
Cloud has close fight against Campillo.who is good fighter.. Cloud lose to Hopkins, nothing shamed of.also Stevenson couldn't drop Cloud.and survived 7rounds. Beterbiev almost killed the poor Cloud in couple of minutes.that should tell something..
You think Kovalev is better of worse now than he was in his 7th professional fight??? Of course learning the different style of fighting that is the professional ranks and learning under professional style trainers is going to improve him. Using a couple of freak examples like Loma and Rigo doesnt change that fact. Theres guys who have won world and olympic golds who have taken years to make the top of the pros and had 20 or so fights. Throwing a fighter into a major fight too early is a perfect way of ruining a fighter.
Hard to say if he has developed after that.maybe tuned his game little better. I don't think 28-30 yrs old boxers who have trained their whole life, find new magical skills just in couple of years.the work has been done already in teenage years.. Etc.. If you are top talent and world class fighter,it just unfair that you pad your record and fight against clearly inferior opposition. And those freak talents who can instantly become succesful in pros.are usually from countries where they turn pro later.they have already learned to box. Americans, mexicans, asian etc.. Turn pro when they are still learning to box.and they need more practice,to tune their skills to world level. You think Russian olympic team etc.. train you to punch properly, learn defence, footwork, doesn't force you to work your cardio or strength You and many others severely underrate the training of these former soviet nation fighters, and their knowledge of the game. Canelo is good example.young fighter who has many fights.and is touted as experienced fighter.you think Canelo knows more about boxing than Beterbiev then? Although Beterbiev has more experience in boxing than Canelo. Russian fighters are pro fighters in the amateurs.so does the Cuban system work same way.it's just on their culture.and now it's changing slowely
I think Canelo knows more about pro boxing, yes. Hes been 12 rounds many times and despite what people say about him, has learned how to pace himself and fight in a way conducive to world title fights. You cant jump from 3 rounds, or at best, 5 round WSB fights and suddenly know know top pace yourself for 12 rounds. As good as Loma has looked, even he has notably taken rounds off because hes yet to learn how to pace himself over a 12 round fight. Theres a HUGE difference between going all out for 3 rounds, and learning how to fight a 12 round fight. Its why people work their way up from 4-6-8-10-12 round fights. GGG didnt fight for world titles after his 7th fight, he worked his way up, fighting better and better opponents.
Ummm.......Tavoris Cloud is right at the level of MOST of KOvalev's big wins, and would likely be #4 on his best wins had they fought. Beterbeiv is gonna steamroll Page Jr, and I think that win is on par with Kovalev's #3 win over Agnew.:huh:huh:huh
I think it's blatantly obvious that Beterbeiv's mgmt is grooming him to take out Stevenson, that is if Pascal or Bute or Froch don't beat him to it. Either way, Beterbeiv KOs Bute, Froch, and Pascal on the same night. So.......really a moot point.:think
And pacing is only difference, how much your man Kovalev has experience of that? Before Hopkins majority of his fights, were fast and brutal. And it's not Kovalev or Beterbiev fault that they hit so hard and are so good that nobody survives against them. These Canelos of the worlds are so far away skillwise to Beterbievs of the world it's almost comical. Pacing in the fight is important.but skills pay the bills. It's more easy to learn to pace yourself.than learn magical boxing skills. And lastly, who you want to see Beterbiev going next against Page?if you want to build up him slowly.so he can learn to pace himself, although all his fights ends fast.hard to learn pacing when you possesses Tyson like power. Everybody don't need to learn to be 12round point fighters.. Beterbiev will learn it when somebody could take his shots.maybe he loses, maybe not.but i want to see it.. Beterbiev gains nothing blowing these fighters in couple of rounds if pacing is only thing that matters. Kovalev proved himself against Hopkins.before that Kovalev was also 3round fighter and everybody questioned his stamina.
The change in pace leads to a change in style, thinking more strategically. The whole way you fight has to change, less bouncing around, more planting of feet etc. How many top amateurs have been found out at the pro level, because they were pushed too fast or simply didnt have the style to succeed at the pro level? Im saying Beterviev needs to get to 13/14 fights before you could put him in with Kovalev. Thats not "padding his record" or "wasting time". Its necessary to compete with a guy who is as seasoned as Kovalev. I think Page is a good fight for Beterbiev. A hungry young fighter coming to win. He'll learn from this fight Im sure, and move on up the list.
I wouldn't say that Beterbiev should fight for the world title next, but it would be unnecessary for him to have 20 or so fights before stepping up to the elite level. He just defeated Cloud who was recently a champion. Of course that he shouldn't be fighting low-level journeymen now, that would be just a waste of time. He is now rated #14 WBC and #10 WBA, and should be looking to position himself accordingly. Page Jr is a fellow prospect and it's a right fight for Beterbiev right now. If he wins, he should probably start looking for opponents like Fonfara, Campillo, or maybe eventually Liebenberg or Cherviak, depending on which route he wants to take. Anyway, assuming he beats Page, perhaps he should take a similar fight or two, and then start for looking for those names and start positioning himself in one of the eliminators. All that could happen around his 10th fight, so there's really no need to take additional 5 or 10 unnecessary bouts before taking on the top guys.
we will find it soon, but i think it's missmatch.Page is still trying to learn the basics in boxing.it will be fast and ugly. And i agree that is important to learn how to pace yourself, but in same breath i don't think it takes many years to learn it.some are better of course than others in that department. Tyson never learned to pace himself properly, fighters are just different.Beterbiev main asset is punching power,i think turning him more like a point fighter will be a bad thing. Boxers are too protected,if you are good or great.don't hide it.Beterbiev is almost 30.he can't waste his prime years fighting c class competition.when he is ready to face Kovalev according to you.he is already what 32.and has maybe 2yrs left in his prime.
Artur beterbiev doesnt seem to use much headmovement for a shorter LHW, Hes built like an ironblock and punches strong compact and short. Kovalev has range smoothness and puts his punches together better. IF kovalev allowes beterbiev inside he could be stopped, if he keeps it at a distance and uses his workrate and body attack, i can see kovalev stopping beterbiev.
