Chuvalo vs Marciano

No, it wouldn't go 15 rounds.
Marciano would stop him, bust him up. Chuvalo would have his moments though, he'd do well for a few rounds, like Rex Layne did. Chuvalo was really very strong, very tough and a good bodypuncher.
He'd give Rocky a decent war for a few rounds but Rocky would just start getting through with more and more damaging punches. Just a matter of time before it turns into a one-sided beating, possibly a brutal knockout.

 

I think Chuvalo would have a reasonable shot at lasting the distance against Marciano. His chin was unbelieveable, and the two instances in which he lost by TKO were due to his being outgunned and overwhelmed by his opponents. He would most certainly be outgunned against Marciano, too, but Rocky wasn't quite as quick as Frazier or as big and physically dominant as Foreman- that is, given that George can survive an unbelieveable number of monstrously powerful shots, I think there's a good chance Marciano wouldn't be able to draw out a situation where Chuvalo was just getting an extended, senseless pounding to where the ref would be compelled to stop the fight.

However, Marciano's simple ability to keep delivering a steady supply of bone-crushingly powerful shots every round and from either hand is an attribute that certainly neither of the two aforementioned fighters could match, and I see it as likely that eventually Chuvalo would either be severely cut/busted up or finally start growing punch-drunk from punishment and be stopped in the mid-to-later rounds.

 

This match up is not as silly as it initially looks.

Chuvalo would have given Marciano a lot of stylistic problems not just with his durability but also his ability to use Marcianos own tactics against him.

How would Marciano handel another low crouching fighter for example?

In the end though I dont think it would go the distance. Chuvalos chin might hold up but his facial bones or his teeth wouldnt.

 

of coarse your refering to his bout with joe frazier,chuvalo suffered that injury while training for the frazier fight.after repairs that cheek bone was as good as ever.chuval fought heavier punchers then frazier and never had a problem taken the shots

 

It is not just the Frazier fight.

Bad things always seemd to happen to anybody who traded with Marciano. Bad bad things.

I am not talking about them getting knocked out.

Me neither and that is why Chuvalo is likley to sustain hideous injuries before being TJOd.

 

I think Chavlo’s durability is a tad over rated. Yes he was durable, but the two best punchers he fought blew him out in three and four rounds ( Foreman and Frazier ). It could be argued that the next puncher Chavlao fought floored him at least once ( Bonevena )

Did Chavalo dangerous puncher in Frazier or Foreman’s class and go the distance? Nope. So what is his durability really based on? I think fans sometimes confuse heart and guts and tie them in to durability. They are separate parts of boxing.

I think Rocky would get the TKO in the mid late to late rounds of the fight. Rocky is faster than Chavalo, has a better attack, and hits a lot harder.

 

BIG DEE HERE = Marciano in 5 rds as I like George Chuvalo. He was a man`s man, afraid of no one and man enough to accept responsibllity for his defeats
without sniveling or whining about why he lost the fight. Against Marciano he would be out gunned and out speeded. Marciano was faster than Frazier people don`t realize how fast Marciano was with his hands and feet.
Marciano caught up with Walcott who was one of the fastest Heavyweight Champions foot wise but then he caught up with every one in his career

Early Frazier was a constantly moving target unlike later 1972 on it wasn`t that he was so quick it was just he never stopped moving.

 

I think fraziers hands were faster than rocks, but marcianos speed is underated. too many people watch his 1954-1955 title defenses were marciano had slowed down considerably physically

 

BIG DEE HERE= If you want to really see how fast his hands were it`s the KO of Kid Matthews where Marciano nails him with two wicked left hooks in a row
the first sending him toward the canvas and the second nailing him before he
can fall to it. Kid Matthews was for my money one of the most advoided Lt.
Heavyweights of all time as none of the Lt Heavyweight champions of the late 40s early 50 would fight him. Matthews wasn`t any bum but a real good fighter who had to fight at Heavyweight to get good money fights and maybe a title shot which Marciano ruined.
