Dawson or Pavlik? Who'd be the bigger W for Calzaghe?

so, say calzaghe was to suffer a sudden bout of commen sense and realise that despite the good money he'd be getting for it the RJJ fight means jack at this stage and he decided to fight one of these boys, then who would look better on the resume providing he got the win?

the hot young talent of the LHW division and WBC champ chad dawson?

or the undisputed middleweight champ kelly pavlik who'd probably face off against calzaghe at 168 for the marbles there?

who does the most for calzaghe? who would you rather see him face out of these two?

EDIT: added RJJ to the poll as well as there are some out there who seem to think he still has something left in the tank, so the deluded fans can have their option as well. ;-)

Pavlik would be the best option for Joe's resume

I think Pavlik is the man - a linear middleweight champion with one eye on moving up would be an excellent move for Joe.

A win over Roy would be great, but it isn't a peak Roy, and could be termed as beating up an old man.

Chad Dawson lost to Glen Johnson IMO, if Joe were to beat him there would be a Lacy type reaction - i.e. overrated, not very good after all etc etc.

    Pavlik for me.

The common sense would be to fight Jones for the money ;)

But the sign of greatness would be to fight Dawson or/and Pavlik

Had to vote for Pavlik in this one. Here's my reasoning.

I think that outside of hard core boxing fans Pavlik is a lot better known than Dawson.
There seems to be some genuine heat between them.
Joe spent 7 months calling pavlik out; he'll look like an ass if he retires without fighting him.
I think the two would bring out the absolute best in each other.

Due to the age difference and the complications of schedules and agendas this could end up being a great fight that never happened. To me the worst case scenario would be for this fight to happen after Joe is so far past his best that it becomes irrelevant. I'd rather do without it than see that happen.

Pavlik's not shown a lot of signs of actually being interested.

He's still fighting at a weight below where the fight could possibly take place, where he has at least three fights mapped out finishing with Abraham early next year. Calzaghe may be retired by then.

Not sure if he's even mentioned it.

What is the problem with RJJ and Pavlik? Both are legacy WINS worth $$$$.

Joe would have beaten the current real Champs and former Champs from 160-175!! That would be quite a feat and worth watching.

In truth? RJJ and Pavlik both present real and different challenges for JC:good

I'm thinking Joe has enough left for old Roy. But KP?? Could wind up being the YOUNGSTOWN CELEBRATION.

Joe makes both fights? His respect is HUGE. Let Amsterdam start the ATG discussion again and its on! Calzaghe would have to jump considerably at that point:yep Even if he loses:good

Joes a Welsh legend and a HIGHLY ACCOMPLISHED Euro fighter who's had what it takes to back it up:happy

Think he'll fight RJJ for the pay day but it still wouldnt be too late to face Pavlik after that fight. It may also give the casual fight fan more time to get to know both boxers so that when it happens more $$ can be raised.

Pavlik said; "I'd love to fight Joe." He also said; "If it ever happens, I'd love it." He's made several comments all totaled. One problem is that their tenative schedules and agendas don't line up well at all. If Miranda beats Abraham, no one will care about Pavlik/Abraham, so that could change.

It used to be Dawson, after Pavlik's close run against Taylor. Thing is, Dawson ain't what he used to be. His stock's gone down. Calzaghe won't fight either though because he ain't gonna risk being gifted to them, the way Hopkins was gifted to him. I figure he'll give Jones a payday instead, to say thank you.

Dawson by a mile. As much as I want to see Roy vs Joe. Truth is Roy is done and has been for a long time now.

Pavlik would have a built in excuse. Not Pavlik himself, but the people that wouldnt give Joe credit for beatting him. Too small etc.

Dawson is the one. I also think that Dawson will become a more highly touted fighter then Pavlik in the furture. Which would make a win over him more impressive for Joe, I dont think that Joe would beat him thou.

    Pavlik isnt TOO small:lol:

RJJ has legacy and $$$$ value. Joe's in position to cement 60-75? Thats huge.

Dawson aint a Champ and hows he earned the right?:yikes

Pavlik would be the best fight for Slappy Joe now but it will not happen as Joe is more likely to see if he can find a pensioner with a boxing licence .... LOL
