For a station that covers football better than anyone else can come close to, their boxing coverage in terms of both pundits and commentators is absolute dog shiz. Nick Halling must have worn out mute buttons up and down the country. Ian Darke he ain't. Glenn McCrory has been there about 20 years and still doesn't bother doing any research. Johnny Nelson, auto cue will never be his friend. Jobs for the boys springs to mind whenever i hear any of that three. Darren Barker seems a nice guy, just don't expect him to give much insight into anything. Bernard Dunne was excellent last week, but i doubt he will be seen again. Gary Logan is fantastic, not a regular on Boxnation, he should become one on Sky. Adam Booth is intelligent and articulate, get him in more often. Is there anybody, anywhere, who rate Halling, McCrory, or Nelson?
McCrory is alright. Him and Darke were a good double act back in the day on commentary. Agree with all your other points
Nelson is ok as a pundit when giving his opinion. He's a USLESS presenter though and needs to be s****ped ASAP
Woodhall is usually all right, although he showed a lot of bias towards Galahad when he fought Jazza ****ens.
Woodhall will show bias to anybody who trains with the GB team or is a friend of the family etc.. ****ing hell Halling is horrible, talking like an east end gangster on that Cleverly-Bellew build up show, gloating about guys getting ''sparked'' and ''banjoed''. One horrible, ignorant, clueless, obnoxious oaf of a man.
I'm a fan of boxing. Couldnt care less about pundits and commentators. They do their job. Some you like, some you dont. It's not a big deal.
Halling is the worst commentator boxing has ever had in this country. Worse than Jim Neilly and that's saying something!
By far. Not even a likeable guy to make him slightly more bearable. Here's to a Cleverly win, a drunken scouser hurling a bottle towards the ring, it hitting Halling, and the fcuk wit losing the ability to speak.
I agree with the OP. As much as I think Johnny Nelson has improved on Ringside, he seems to be the darling of Sky Boxing which is surprising as he isn't the best presenter by a long shot. Glenn Mccory never gives you anything to chew over, he tells you everything you already know and uses cliches all the time. What you need is people who aren't afraid to be honest, people who tell it like it is
They should just employ the Colonel and Larry to come over and commentate and have Paul Dempsey and Teddy Atlas in the studio.
This. It's quite bizarre that Channel 5 have arguably the best commentary team of Farrar/Bernstein/Woodhall despite the level of fights being generally of a much lower status than Sky/Boxnation.
