Andre Ward's last fight was on November 16 2013, that's 1 year and 3 days ago. Isn't RING policy obliged to drop fighters from their ratings after 365 days of inactivity? Have they changed the rules recently? Maybe I'm talking nonsense but I'm interested in your opinions, gents.
He should have been dropped with the first Tuesday ratings update after one year has passed, which would have been yesterday, from fans' rankings (if they play by the "one year of inactivity" rules). However, since he holds their lineal title they may keep him ranked because the rules on lineal champions are 1.5 or 2 years to get a fight scheduled IIRC, but I could be wrong about that.
That could very well be the case, the lineal title probably gives the Champion a little more time. Thanks for the information.
The problem is that according to the Ring's rules he should have been stripped over 2 months ago (Rule #5) and they didn't. Now he has 6 months before he breaks rule 3 and 4, and I think they only strip him if that happens too.
5. The Champion does not schedule a fight with a Top-5 contender from any weight class for two years. Was Edwin Rodriguez not a Top-5 contender? Or do you mean Chad Dawson? And why did he break the rules if he has two years to fight? Anyways, the rules apply to RING Champions but I would guess the same thing applies to the Top 10 P4P ranked fighters? It's getting a bit confusing for me..
@Champion Rodriguez was ranked 7th. It's been over 2 years since Ward fought a top 5 guy (Dawson). Ward is RING Champion at super middleweight.
What's worse is that Rodriguez weighed 170lbs so technically the fight should be classed as a light heavyweight bout.:yep Which would mean the super middleweight champion hasn't fought a super middleweight bout for over 2 years and 2 months.:-( If that wasn't enough, when he did fight at super middleweight it was against a drained light heavyweight in Dawson!:tired
