I think Wink deserves better and I can see why he is waiting out.

But at some point he has got to realize his ability and reputation in the boxing fraternity isnt the same as his popularity or marketability.
He slogged away for years to get a big fight, he might might want to take a step back see that he is coming off a loss and understand he may have to slog it out again for a little while.

Snag Rubio's mandatory status, Im sure he could get enough backing to get a fight with him and that would be easy money for him.

What really makes this a sad state of affairs is that Winky could beat anybody in the top 10 at 160 right now. To top it off I think that if he beat Rubio, Pavlik himself would push for a fight with Winky. As far as I know Winky is the only fighter Kelly has ever talked trash about. He said, "I'd love to smack Winky around." There is considerable history behind that statement, and Pavlik seems to have some genuine animosity toward the guy.

However, at the present time all Winky brings to the table is a record of 1-1-1 in his last 3 outings, and a reputation ( deserved or not ) for boring fights. He needs to shake that off with a couple solid wins at 160.

Pavlik/Wright is a fight I would love to see happen. Rubio is the WBC mandatory, but screw that. Winky should just swallow his god damn pride and fight the guy. If he would do that Arum would no doubt set his resentments aside, and make the fight. Especially since Kelly would probably push for it just as hard as Winky. In my opinion Pav NEEDS to beat 2 guys at 160; Abraham and Wright! At that point most would consider him to have cleaned out the division, and Winky gets his retirement funded in the process! And I think Wright deserves that.

Could still be tough negotiations. Remember Winky conceded the 'lions' share of the purse to the champ as if he were somehow being generous and considered himself the draw but would make that 'sacrafice' to have the fight happen? And what is said in public, well intentioned or not, is not the agenda of the promoters and managers when it comes time to talks.

winky thinks he's been there with the names, elite fighter but still high risk low reward fighter. Everyone knows he's tough and pavlik imo would not even knock him out..he's been with strong fighters like tito, young vargas, and mosley.

Lets admit it, no champion/elite fighter really wants to voluntarily fight Wright; his style is awkward as hell. As someone said: "high risk, low reward". There has to be pressure coming from Wright himself, the fans and the TV people.

Winky needs to get in the ring. He has to stay busy. He's what? 36? His time is passing. He can't just sit out a year. He should be fighting a minimum of 2 times a year. He last fought Hopkins on July 21, 2007.

You must be mentally ******ed if you think DLH gave Winky a serious offer. It was probably a one sided offer just so their camp can say they offered Winky a fight. There was no way in hell DLH was going to get in the ring with Winky, in his prime, at 154. He would've been destroyed. What incentive did DLH have to fight Winky? He wasn't a big name. He had no chance of winning. While Winky had everything to gain by fighting DLH. Big pay day. Another big name on his resume. Almost guaranteed victory.

Yeah, i'm sure Winky dodged DLH.

Winky turning down a fight with DLH is almost akin to someone turning down millions of dollars and instant fame with almost nothing to lose.

At what weight? Winky can't go lower than 160 these days, and Oscar probably should not go above 154.
