As a scouser I think he's an embarrassment to the city and to what we represent. He is everything a good sportsman shouldn't be and nothing that one should. He's alienating people left and right to the point where if you go out in Liverpool now and get talking about this fight, you'll see there are very few people left who actually want him to win. I imagine he'll get the majority support within the arena because I know the majority of the tickets will have been bought up by hard nosed evertonians to whom he's clung to like a leech, because if he was just tony Bellew and not Tony Bellew, Evertonian... he'd have no supporters left in the city by now. Everywhere else in Liverpool, people will be hoping he gets a serious hiding.
Good points. The whole Evertonian thing has always seemed a bit forced, with more than half a mind on ticket sales to his fights.
Indeed, theyve let him use their facilities the last few years and martinez is issuing a message of support in his press conference. Times like this and stevenson he makes the city look like its full of bellends, if nathan tags him early his approach will be interesting
Id have thought by bringing Everton into his boxing profile so much he would immediately be halving his fans in Liverpool but he obviously doesn't see it like that. I'll admit being a Rangers man I started to curve my support for Scott Harrison after he was out at Celtic Park every other fight for a reception lol.
I don't think the rivalry is as heated as the Glasgow one. Plus it's only a 10k arena so it hasn't been that difficult to sell out. Bellew watching Everton on the behind the ropes show was rather cringeworthy.
It's nowhere near as heated, away fan can sit in the home end without getting too much stick, can't imagine that at the old firm
Come off it lad .. I live in kirkdale and everyone here and Walton are behind him. He does come out with some daft comments at times that could be done without, to suggest people in the city will be hoping he gets put asleep is daft, most people in this city will support and defend him anyway as he's one of are own and no chance they will support some wool over a scouser.
It's not all show business though. That was not contrived or agreed to prior to the press conference and there ae bigger fights where that type of rbish doesn't go on.
Don't know the full story with Clev and AA (suppose that's why it's called anonymous) - whether it's true or not.But to bring that into the hype of a fight is the mark of an utter cretin. Of course, the fight has to be sold for PPV and hype and mouthing is part of boxing, but to use a condition like that against someone in public is disgusting.
Its not good. No one is gonna buy the PPV on the basis of 'bellow giving clev stick for been an alcoholic (not that its true, but clev didn't deny it) you could see Hearn thinking 'shut up tony' It wouldn't suprise me if its a private matter for clevand only person in boxing he told was his his promoter Hearn, who has let it slip to bellew who has then told the world. Can see it going further this one
Is it me or does it feel that Cleverly still really isn't promoted by Hearn? Is this the last fight of his current deal?
