It's been 5 years since Pacquiao last knocked out an opponent. His pay-per-view numbers are down, and he's seemingly in the homestretch of a career that will one day land him in the Hall of Fame. But he wants to avoid the trend of a series of losses that many legendary boxers endure in their final bouts and the ignominy of losing to a largely unheard of opponent. Algieri, also has something to prove and is so desperate to prove he belongs on the world stage and isnt simply showing up as plodder for Pacquiao. What are the odds of Pacquiao knocking out Algeieri?
The KOless streak is a bit disingenuous and overstated. The Margarito fight could of easily been stopped and Mosley was begging Nasim to quit. As far as Pac's chances of ending the streak against Algeiri, it's unlikely considering Algeiri's propensity to move and counter, and Pac's ineptitude at cutting off the ring.
True: just look at the list after Cotto 1. Clottey 2. Margarito 3. Mosley 4. JMM 3rd fight 5. Bradley 1st fight 6. JMM 4th fight 7. Rios 8. Bradley 2nd fight These are some of the toughest buildings to knock over in boxing.
This. Yeah Mosley literally begged for Nazim to wave the towel. Nazim's speech to get him to go out for the 11th was pretty epic, though. I remember being ****ed, because I had predicted an "RTD10" which, I must say, would have been impressive to nail perfectly. As previously stated, Pac is facing opposition that doesn't get stopped so the expectation for him to stop them seems odd... ...even if he has had the size advantage over several of them (JMM III, Bradley I, Rios, and Algieri all had 1 or fewer fights at Welterweight and each fought at 140 the fight before). Since Cotto, I've too often picked Pacquiao by stoppage (Margarito, Mosley, Marquez III, Bradley I).
Not many top 147lbers are Floyd no Brook no Porter no Maidana no Khan no Alexander no Bradley no Etc etc
Pac will probably be looking for the KO by putting constant pressure without having to worry about what's coming back. One of the reasons they picked the light-hitting Algieri but it backfire on them.
