Is this the rule in trilogies. The guy who wins the first fight, and loses the second, will always lose the third. Of recent years I was thinking: Barrera-Morales, Gatt-Ward, Vasquez-Marquez, Pacquiao-Morales; then add in Leonard-Duran, and Ali-Frazier. The only one I can think of that breaks the pattern is Bowe-Holyfield, but is this a case of the exception proving the rule. This is trilogies were talking about here; I dont want to hear mention of any Sandy Saddler-Willie Pep stuff, were the guy who won the opener, then lost the second fight, went on to win the next two (that's if my memory serves me right). Apologies if this is a boring thread.:dead Just interested to know????
Casamayor won the first and third while dropping the second to Corrales. That was the first to come to mind. Then again, I can also come up with Tarver/Jones and Gonzalez/Carbajal as further support to your point.
Very nice points man and good thread.... i started noticing that around pac vs morales actually... and then it held true in vasquez marquez Vasquez vs Marquez Gatti vs Ward Ali vs Frazier Mab vs Morales Pac vs Morales Leanord vs Duran
I actually thought about mentioning that, because in my mind it was Barrera I & III as well, but then I said to myself "lets just go with the call that was made on the day". Opinion would be divided on Marquez-Vasquez III as well, and then that would just open a can of worms that I would rather remain closed. Its in the past now.
