Carlos Monzon v Carl Froch

This is really the bottom line. I don't understand why it should be so controversial.

 

Monzon should decision him .. no blow out but was a better class of fighter and the sizes are comparable ...

 

Good grief-only on ESB would Froch and Monzon be written in the same sentence.
Monzon in a completely higher class than Froch could imagine and only hope for.atsch

 

Monzon to out box Froch in a very tough fight. Froch is no mug and could hang with the best of them. Froch might be awkward looking but he can box a bit on the outside and his physical strength and fitness is outstanding. The problem with Froch is his vunerability in his weird leaping attacks. Monzon would never lose his cool like Bute, he would counter Froch's wild attacks all night. If Groves puts Froch on his **** so can Monzon. Monzon's just too cool for Froch. Tough fight though.

 

Monzon would hurt Froch bad!!!

Over Ketchel? I do agree that Monzon is a little over rated as he had neither speed or power to stand out.

I think Monzon wins a decision, but it could be close

 

I don't think Froch is an easy fight for Monzon, he might not win, but I don't really see him getting beaten up. In fact, if you try to beat Froch that way you are playing to his strength, and Monzon was good at avoiding that. Froch would be stuck fighting Monzon's fight in all likelihood.
As sacreligous as it might be to say, there are some similarities, Monzon was another fighter that was criticized for not being fast, etc, and yet, nobody was beating him.
Froch would make the distance, and would have the power to keep Monzon honest. I don't think he is any tougher than Bennie Briscoe though, so I would expect Monzon to win a decision, with a few rounds going to Froch.
Sizewise, not much different, especially if they use modern weigh in.

 

His skills are fantastic, I'd never dispute that. He reminds me of a blend of Wlad and Vitali.

But his era was weak, and I think he is overrated in that a lot of people see him as a lock for no.2 or 3 at middleweight and dismiss Hagler or Steele being there.

 

What makes this fight interesting is Froch's size.Not that he's in the same class as an overall fighter, because he isn't.

Even Many of Monzon's bigger supporters tend to question if his style and strengths would have translated well into fighting bigger men.His ability to take advantage of usually being the bigger, rangier man was key in a great many of his fights and a massive part of his 160 greatness.

So a fight against a decent, but hardly spectacular modern 168 fighter could be an interesting and valid matchup in seeing how he got on with bigger men that he wouldn't be able to matador in quite the same way.

If Froch were around in the 70s he's probably the kind of lightheavy Monzon would have tested the waters against.If he dominates him, he moves on, but if it turns out the greater strength, range and general physicality make him look less than stellar maybe he drops back down.

i can't see Froch beating Monzon, even allowing for the size advantage and me being someone who doesn't think Carlos would have fared too well above 160.imo he's too accurate, tough and mentally strong, but i could well see him made to look relatively ordinary, having to grind some hard rounds out and take longer punches that at 160 he was able to lean back\sway away from.

Imo if Monzon had fought Galindez or Conteh circa 74\75 he would have been beaten very handily and give those fighters the Gomez vs Zarate sort of win that would have consolidated their reputation's much better for future ****ysis.

Too big a gap in the quality of each man's offensive work and textbook skills there, as Yaqui wasn't the type to be bothered by awkward delivery and hardcase fighters not wilting when he lands good stuff.

I see Froch in that 175 era as more of a Euro\slightly sub world class level sort of fighter, kind of Bunny Johnson\Dennis Andries \dynamite Billy Douglas\Juan Aguilar\Rudi schmidtke\Mike Rossman sort of level.

 

Monzon's only effective weight is middle, he has no attributes that lend themselves to weight jumps.
