Yeah I know he only had 1 fight at heavyweight and even then only weighed around 192/3 Ibs but how would he have fared if matched against the best and the rest of the 80s heavyweights? Lets say for starters Tyson Holmes Witherspoon Tubbs Thomas Tucker Dokes Weaver Spinks Coo ney
I think he'd do surprisingly well. A lot if 80s guys would lay back and try to box, which would feed into Jones' strategy. I think Tucker would lose for that reason. Jones would obviously lose to Tyson and very probably Holmes on his best night, but if he caught Holmes slipping and out of shape he could give him hell. I think he'd win at a rate of about 2:1 or 3:1 over the others. Spinks would present a big challenge.
They would all kick his ass.Especially Dokes, who quickness and speed would make Roy realize he made a mistake real quick.
They're so much bigger than him, except for Spinks who I do think he'd beat. It depends which version of the fighter shows up. Obviously 1980 Holmes beats him, 85 version I think he could win a decision against Any of them try to make it into a boxing contest as was they're forte, ie Tubbs, Thomas, Tucker play into his hands
Each and every one of the names mentioned so far as well as plenty of others would have desroyed Jones if he ever agreed to fight them except maybe Tubbs. In a 12 rds fight, Roy might havd even survived Spinks while losing a decision if he fought to survive from start to end and I would not even count him him lasting in such a case. Even mid-1990s versions of Holmes, Pinklon Thomas (if he fought with any intention to win) , Witherspoon, Page and Carl Williams would have been too much for any version of Jones to even hear the end of the 12th rd against.
I actually think that he's damaged his reputation and standing in history with boxing fans by fighting on so long past his prime.
