It takes two guys to fight.

The reason why nobody wants to watch Rigo fight is because Rigo doesn't take any risks.

If his opponent didn't take any risks, there would be no fight.

God forbid Rigo takes a risk and gets knocked down by a jab like he did in the borefest known as Rigo vs Cordoba.

The reality is, guys that are offensive machines are greater fighters than the best defensive guys because it's harder to utilize and aggressive defense, and be an offensive counterpuncher, than to fight off the back foot.

Guys like Mike Tyson, Ray Robinson, and today, Manny Pacquiao have undeniable skills, but, the reason why they are superstars is because they use their skills to fight their opponent.

They take the risks. They are the gladiators of the sports, which is why they are paid more based on their merits of their work.

This is why a guy like Pacquaio, who doesn't come from the US, and at one point hardly spoke English can become a mega star in the US, and why guys like Mayweather have to run their mouth and essentially sell their soul in order to gain fans.

If Mayweather was quiet, with his risk free style, he would be nowhere near the PPV star he is today. Furthermore, he would not have been able to negotiate his way out of fighting guys like Margarito, who would have beaten him because Mayweather lacked the power to gain his respect.

So if you took away everything that goes on outside the ring and broke it down to what guys do in the ring, Pacquaio will always be greater than Mayweather.

    It is what it is.

wow, be prepare to meet some critics for this thread if any.

The truth is there are more great offensive fighters that are well known in boxing history than defensive ones(JMM & FMJ).

I don't know man, I think they get plenty of respect, some of the most respected fighters are offensively minded.

if that's the case why doesn't Provodnikov get on his toes and box since it's easier? Because he can't that's why. he's short, compact, and built to fight toe to toe. that's where he's honed his skills.

If "fighting off the back foot" is easier why can't everyone do it? because they can't. Muhammad Ali was great because he could do it all.

Boxers must fight to their strengths in order to WIN fights. Otherwise you'll be like Yuriorkis Gamboa and start slugging with your hands down and LOSE

Well either they can't, or they don't train that way so they can't bring it to the real fight.

this is why manny is better than mayweather from a boxing point of view and this is why floyd is more likely to beat manny because floyd doesnt take risks but manny does

Yea right, it's the other way around. Its easier to promote a offensive styled fighter due to the hype. Promoters even state this publicly and its the reason why floyd and arum didn't work out.

You can argue its harder to be a fighter (and I assume you say that because its the style you prefer) but there are very few defensively sound fighters and even less who have any hype like floyd. Some fighters are brawlers because they cant master the art of defense.

In reference to rigo, he is a boxer why would he risk fighting a style that benefits the opponent for the sake of pleasing you?

Its boxing, boxers are taught to box. It's hit and dont get hit, some just do it better then others is all.

it is a combat sport, in combat you dont conquer an enemy by defending, you take the fight to your enemy. defence should just be used as a way to take the least amount of punishment while destroying your opponent.

First of all, you're an imbecile considering your screen name attempts to be an ironic insult to a group of people you despise due to your own petty prejudice.

It's hard to take anything you say seriously because of that.

But I'll entertain you anyway. Rigo doesn't make any money. Maybe Rigo doesn't care about money, but in the event that he does, like most other great fighters before him, he has to take risks.

For him, that probably involves moving out of his comfort zone into a higher weight class and potentially fighting rangier guys that can box to the point to where Rigo could lose the fight on the cards if he utilizes his risk free style.

The last time I saw Rigo against a guy that chose to utilize that style, which is to not engage in a fight, Rigo was knocked down by a jab in a very close and competitive, albeit extremely boring fight.

Even Algieri has good defensive ability and footwork, as he rarely gets marked up and didn't take much punishment, even against a guy like Pacquaio.

In contrast, Marquez who won the fight, took a hell of a beating to do it, but he won the fight.

He didn't lose every single round like Algieri.

When and if Mayweather finds his nut sack, and agrees to fight Pacquaio, you'll probably leave the board because your intention here is to instigate separation and hatred by spreading your own prejudice.

And boxing is not hit and don't get hit. It's win the fight and make money. It's your career. If you can do it by not getting hit, that's great, and that's why guys that do take risks and end up great, develop a style that utilizes aggressive defense and counterpunching.

Provo could do that to a certain extent, but his physical stature is one reason why he wouldn't be successful in addition to perhaps, not having the skills.

Gamboa is a guy that COULD box on the back foot and did it effectively at lower weights, but he did not learn to box using aggressive defense, despite having the physical assets to do it.

His career is not over, and part of the reason he lost has to be due to the time he took off.

If Gamboa got his career back on track and learned how to defend himself on the way in, he could beat Crawford.

It's just he threw looping punches with his chin in the air when he got inside. It wasn't a great strategy, but perhaps his coach didn't know how to fight going forward.

If you want to be truly successful in boxing, you have to learn both ways, especially if physically, you could be at a significant advantage if you chose one way to fight.

Either that, or you duck guys.

Lol slip your tampon back in. You act as if boxers have to fight one style in order to have respect. Some boxers are better at being brawlers and some are better at being boxers.

I'm sorry if you can't understand rigo's talent that you find him boring, I happen to think he is very interesting to watch just to see how he picks apart his opponents. Defensive style boxing is his style, your talking about him so he is obviously doing something right. Mares and some other golden boy fighters have tried calling him out but he is tied to top rank which is unfortunate.

Marquez fought PAC the way he did because outboxing him in the 3rd fight (was a easy win for jmm) was not enough and PAC won due to his fame.

Richard abril outboxed Rios and lost , again due to fame.

Lara outboxed canelo, but lost due to canelos fame.

I love war fights as much as any one else, but boxing has other sides to it and I'm no close minded like you. I find it interesting how a defensive boxer can outbox a brawler or how a brawler can tear down a boxer. I enjoy all fights. I enjoyed David tear down rosados attempt to box tonight.

And if floyd and pac fought, I would be rooting for PAC. Its clear your just have a agenda. If you only approve of brawlers, then go over to ufc.

You lack the ability to think critically.

A brawler is a fighter that does not use defense. I repeatedly spoke about utilizing aggressive defense.

Maybe you can't do this because you can't punch and you're scared inside because you know if it came down to it, you would get your manhood takin away as you lie limp and useless after taking a beating at the hands of an opponent that laughed off your pathetic shots, but such a thing does exist.

Even if you're a non puncher, there are ways to at least make you have enough power to gain your opponents respect. For most people anyway.

Maybe you don't fit in this category and that shows your resentment and hatred towards the Mexicans for instance, which you probably generalize as warriors and having a style peculiar to their racial characteristics which you abhor.

And if Lara beat Canelo, then boxing is dead. But he didn't win. It was a close fight, but Lara took a lot of body shots and his output dropped to nearly nothing as he hoped to steal a decision by running and pot shotting.

The judges made the right decision in that fight.
