I actually agree with your call about Mayweather and Benitez. Not something we,d want as PPV...Benitez at least made for some decent fights. Palomino,Cervantes he even gave SRL problems. And Hamsho would absolutely beat Floyd. Too physical, mauling and bull strength. Floyd would never have taken these kind of fights that would put him at risk,fact...
LOL. On what planet is Cervantes not considered a huge win? Or Palomino? Or a still very capable Roberto Duran? People like to **** on Duran and say duran wasnt at his best, which was true, but Benitez also completely negated Duran's skillset. N__N has always had twisted views on boxing and for some reason underrates the f*ck out of the 70s era, its not surprising that he gives Benitez no credit and goes on to say canelo and marquez would greatly trouble him... please
None of them would beat Mayweather easily Hearns and Leonard would by decision, and Pryor and Duran would both receive a master class. You can hate Floyd all that you wish but the fact of the matter is that he has outclassed every person he's fought. Don't even tell me about his so-called "close" fights with Maidana and De La Hoya who pounded on his arms and fouled him.
Maidana isn,t and never will be considered a `great` fighter by any stretch... As for Oscar, he was way past his prime and he still gave Floyd a real tough fight. I actually had him ahead before he abandoned his jab. And if you really think that Floyd would have even a minute against Hearns ? Pryor and Duran would get a `master` class ?? From Potshot Floyd ?? You DO realize that Pryor and Duran would laugh off Floyd`s `powershots` and walk him down and maul him inside. Look at what Castillo was able to do ? Have you ever really seen vintage Pryor or even better prime Duran ?? And FRaud doesn,t foul ??? Do you ever watch his flagrant use of elbows ? If he tried that weak **** with Duran, he,d get a master class on how REAL fights get fought... You reallt think that Floyd would have the heart,***** and will to win a war of attrition with Duran or Pryor ?? Hearns flattens Floyd within 6. SRL stops him later. And old Mosely hurt Floyd, and then stopped punching. Do you really think that nuclear Hearns or lightning fast (with power) SRL let Floyd off the hook ??? AGAIN I am asking for Floyd,s signature victory against a top tier,ATG in their prime and at their best weight ?? Baldomir ? The legendary Castillo ? Canelo, who went life and death with another ATG in Lara ? Or the fight of the century against Gatti ? Which `legendary` night makes you think Floyd can hang with the likes of Duran,Pryor,SRL or Hearns ???
Great post ! There are some guys on here who do NOT know their boxing history. Cervantes held the title for I think 3-4 yrs before he lost it to Benitez.Only to regain it after Benitez abdicated and moved up. Then Cervantes held it until losing to Pryor (another great fighter) Duran and Palomino were no slouches either. These guys look at Floyd,s body of work against his` top tier `opponents, and deem him on the level of the true greats...
IMO (and many other ppl's opinion) floyd is only dominant because of his competition. Its clearly not ATG comp. Good chance he gets stopped by both hearns and leonard... lol at pryor and duran recieving masterclasses by floyd, both could very well beat floyd.
Well I've watched Pryor and Duran fight many time and I think Floyd has what it takes to beat them. As for a fight with Hearns I don't think he get knocked out, Benitez went the distance with Hearns. What does Benitez have that helped him go the distance with Hearns that Mayweather doesn't. I can't see how someone faster with a better defense couldn't last the distance against Thomas Hearns.
Specifically what would be the fight plan for Floyd to beat Duran, especially at 135. All you're really saying is that if Benitez did it Floyd could do it too because he's better. But Benitez didn't fight the best version of Duran, because the fight took place at 154. Now regarding the second part of your question as to what Benitez has that Floyd doesn't have, it's called KO power at 154. Floyd's never knocked anyone out at 154, Benitez was awarded KO of the year by Ring magazine when he took the title at 154. Also Benitez beat far better fighters than Floyd ever even dreamed of fighting. This isn't an opinion this is a fact. Duran, Palomino, and Cervantes are far better wins than anyone on Floyd's record. I could potentially see Floyd beating Pryor though, simply because Pryor's defense is no where near as good as Duran's. That said, a Pryor win due to being the far busier fighter and landing more, certainly isn't out of the question and is probably the most likely outcome. I don't recall Floyd ever displaying the work rate that Pryor routinely did.
Castillo basically beat Floyd first time out... And look at the problems Floyd had with Maidana first time around... It,s basically sacrilege to even mention Maidana and Castillo in the same sentence with Duran and Pryor. Everyone needs to watch films of 1978 135 lbs of Duran. How does Floyd hold him off ,without power ? Does anyone really think that his shoulder roll and potshots holds a a snarling and slick Duran ? Seriously people, wake up ? If a fast,MUCH harder hitting SRL couldn,t hold him off in Montreal. What the hell is Floyd going to do ? Duran was dominant inside and he had a vastly underrated defense combined with great feints and head movement to get his way inside. He,d smother and punish Floyd, who would be so caught up in just surviving. That he,d never mount any offense to score points. Duran was Duranimal at 135. Next up,140 lbs of Pryor. Lets see, Pryor was every bit as fast as Floyd, WAY more power, great footwork and workrate !!! Does anyone really think that Floyd would outwork or outland Pryor ? Take a good look at what Maidana and Castillo were able to do with Floyd. Hawk would smother and punish Floyd and not give him any room to breathe, much less punch. Pryor,s defense was NOT as tight as Duran,s... But, his workrate was actually busier and he would EASILY walk threw anything Floyd lands.I have watched Floyd over the years carefully select his `opponents`,then cautiously beat them. Careful, measured punch output. Guess what, you don,t dictate like that against a Duran or Pryor !!And if a fight breaks out (which Duran and Pryor would impose their wills and make happen). Floyd does not have the ***** or heart to hang with these guys... Fella,s it isn,t just skills,it becomes about the will as well...Guys are funny in here, you act like Hatton is the second coming of Duran ...
The Hearns that drilled Cuevas and gave SRL hell, drop pummels and stops Floyd... No way that Floyd has SRL,s heart,***** and power to hang with Hearns.
So people rate Floyd as an ATG based on his huge `wins` against the greatness of Hatton,Baldomir, Castillo, Mosley and Canelo ? Those `sterling ` performances against this list of ATG,s,makes the case for him beating the likes of Pryor,Duran,SRL and Benitez... Priceless !!
