thurman was booed by his own fans last night, against the same opponent gavin looked better until that body shot. there isn't the chasm in class some are making out.

 

Pointless thread, anyone who knows Boxing knows Gavin can't compete with the top dogs at 147. He gets killed vs punchers like one time and Chino.

Luckily for Gavin, he will never share the same ring as them.

Gavin easily won the first 5 rds against Bundu and was looking World class doing it.

The body shot in the 6th totally changed the fight and he lost 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 before composing himself again and winning 11 and 12 which on my scorecard had him beating Bundu 114-113.

The BIG PROBLEM with Frankie is that he has the habit of going on auto-pilot and losing concentration in fights he's winning easily, he got away with doing that against domestic opposition but Bundu punished him for that in their fight.

It's up to Frankie Gavin whether he wants to make the changes that will allow him to be a World class fighter and even Champion, he certainly has the skills to be one but he has to work even harder then he does to go to that next level.

As crazy as some would think it was, i'd make Gavin vs Thurman next and see if Frankie can sink or swim with the big boys.

 

He didn't win the first 5 rounds vs Bundu, i suggest you re watch that fight. Bundu won 2 of the first 5 (maybe even 3), then battered Gavin for the next 4 or 5. 116 -111 or 115 - 112 to Bundu. No way Gavin won that fight.

 

biggest thing for me is the weight , gavins a non puncher and won his amateur gold at lightweight , if he could make lightweight hed be near world level imo , if he cant hell never get near world level , anybody tht watched him vs woodhouse a few years ago new the writing was on the wall

I didn't need to watch Thurman-Bundu to know that Frankie Gavin isn't much more than British title level. Geez.

He cant push a fight, he showed no skill fighting on the front foot against skeete and was countered slightly better in a boring match up, that with no power and not a big ww, doesnt look solid, hes going to struggle to become a top 10 ww. he wont be there. amateur style.

 

Yes,too much made of it mate,fantastic as it was. The way some of these commentators talk,the only skilled professionals have been fantastic amateurs. I agree its where the fundamentals are learned,but some of these Americans and boxers from poorer countries have to turn pro young sometimes to make a living,and learn as pros virtually on the job. No welfare state for some of them.

 

On reflection,Id say he IS above British level,though,and go back on what I said. Good European level,but Thurman did what he should have done with Bundu,but couldn't.
