This is pretty exciting news if you asks me. This weeds out all the idiots trying to cash out quick on Floyd or pacquiao and allows Floyd and pac the time to negotiate and get the super fight to happen.


I'm excited about this and hope it happens with no hiccups. I don't care as much about 154 but at 147 I wouldike to see

I'd be interested in a lot of those fights. Not sure if Broner/Ortiz/Guerro/Berto should be included. Not that they shouldn't or couldn't provide exciting fights but only that they probably shouldn't be involved in a round robin that would determine the mando for Mayweather.

 

I don't think this will happen.


Mayweather and Pacquiao would be retired before this tournament ended.


It could work if they fight for the vacant belt when Mayweather retired.

 

I couldn't think of a solid 8th guy. Maybe the three of them could be included as back ups because it's inevitable that someone would get hurt

I would love it if Tim Bradley could get included but I doubt he could get away from arum for this thing.

 

Wait, so eight men each at 147 and 154? 16 altogether, to determine two #1 contenders?

Or eight men all fighting between the weights? :huh

 

probably not going to happen since fmj only has 2 fights left and he wants to end it soon.

 

That's still fine if pac or Floyd or both retire because then Atleast we will have 1 guy that pretty much close to cleared out the division. Even if we only see that winner fight 3-4 of the opponents in the tourney.

This also ensures nobody in this tourney gets ****ty mismatch fights.

Ww is stacked....they have a solid amount of fighters even if you don't include PAC n Bradley

GB and top rank are doing business now but for what its worth let's assume they will.....we have khan, Thurman, maidana, brook, porter, Alexander, jmm if he comes back, Rios, Chavez, Guerrero, danny Garcia may move up for it, a bunch of fringe guys too....Paulie, broner, matthyssee if he doesn't stay at 140 etc...this **** got my mouth watering

 

Golovkin would drop to 154 and they would scatter like mice.

 

I love the idea but have doubts that it will ever happen.

 

I can only assume we are talking about guys in the WBC top 15 or so in either division. (anything more would be a stretch)

There are plenty of potential FOTY candidates in that mix. :think

Imagine a Rios vs. Lopez? Abregu vs. Kamegai? Guerrero vs. Maidana? :shock:

154lb is much thinner on quality, but we could squeeze out a few nice slug-fests from this, anyway. Jackson & Nelson already had a nice war, on the Martinez vs. Chaves undercard. Kirkland vs. anybody is a hoot. Rabchenko vs. Gonzalez is two guys with big power, good chins, slow hands and feet, and neither hard to find - meaning lots of center-ring two-way sustained bombing.


I don't know if any configuration produces an especially worthy challenger at either weight, but it would be a fun ride.

 

Makes alot of sense and determines who will carry the WW banner after PBF and Manny are gone.

A potential Khan vs. Thurman final after going through a gauntlet of top flight challengers could be fascinating. Alot of natural matchups too in there (Khan vs. Brook in Wembley; Swift vs. Thurman in an explosive hook matchup, etc.)
