The Omar chavez fight was pretty good. Omar came out winging shots, just putting everything into them, but he was sloppy, ended up off balance a lot and missed a lot. Also the ones that he did connect weren't set up so the guy was ready for them. Chavez won the first round based on effectiveness and volume of punches landed.

The second round started off the same but chavez gassed himself out about halfway through the round. Then he got caught with his hands down with a left hook counter after throwing a haymaker midway through the round and was really hurt. He spent the rest of the round trying to survive. By the end of the round it looked like he was going to get knocked out eventually.

Chavez Sr. came into the ring to give his son a pep talk between rounds. And Chavez came out with a bit more focus in the next round. He landed some good shots and was generally the first off the mark. But he didn't tie up and didn't get his hands up so the other guy would weather the strom and then counter Omar after he was done throwing. Chavez still looked tired and back up for most of the round. I scored it even. But chavez might have had a bit of an edge...it seemed like most in the building (including the commentators) gave it too the challenger.

Chavez Sr. was in Omar's corner agains between rounds. Omar came out a bit fresher at the start of the round and seemed to be more concervitive with his efforts. He was still first to his, still couldn't tie his opponent up and was still getting caught after he was done throwing. He pressed the action for most of the round and one it based on effort despite getting nailed near the end of the round. Chavez round.

2-1 and one even

Omar probably would have been koed if it went longer though. he really needs to work on a lot of things. Most of all throwing smart punches, tieiing up his opponent when he needs a break, and keeping his hands up.

I'm not completely unimpressed by Jr. tonight. He's showing a lot of poise in there.

When I first saw Omar I thought he had more pop, the punches were just wild and had more flash. He wasn't too impressive. JCC JR is looking much improved since his last fight though ^_^.

EDIT: In his previous fight did anyone see JCC Jr Counter before, this is new to me, anyone else?

30-26 Chavez. Although he should have finished him, Chavez should be proving to everyone with this fight he is a top 30 junior middle at this point.

yeah he countered in the pocket a bit. But it was more off of parries.
