Anyone questioning Ricky's desire doesn't know Ricky the guy loves to box i've said it since the fight and it's still my belief that he fell in love with his "power" after the Mitchell fight he's started to believe he's a banger and gone in swinging shots which ruined his timing even against lepelley in the last fight as soon as he got the knockdown instead of being happy i said "Oh no" because i knew then Ricky would turn s****py looking to finish it instead of taking his time.

Ricky burns should go back to billy nelson. He hasn't done anything since they split up. Get back to doing what he used to. He was always a fit lad but not quite the very top. A solid world champion but never the best in the division always top 5 under nelson from the Martinez fight upto the Crawford loss. Can he win a world title again? I don't think he will.

 

I liked the Ricky that beat Martinez, quick feet and hands, in and out, punches in bunches.
That Ricky was quality, he needs to go back to that way of fighting if he wants to get anywhere again I think.

 

Going back to Billy won't change his fortunes. He is shot. Looks worst now then ever before.

Ricky and Billy wouldn't work. Ricky had no respect for Billy in the end. Sure Billy would be first to say a fighter needs full respect for his trainer. I just think RICKY got a bit big time charlie. Not in his character which really showed in the ring. I have seen Ricky close up he loves to box no question on his desire. Super Feather would be a good move but he needs to get back up to Scotland and go with Peter Harrison. He will get Ricky back to his best in my opinion. Could easily pick up a world title at Super Feather. I think it will be about making a living now from Ricky. He needs to pay ****** so he needs to use these next few years wisely. Boy deserves to make a bit of money after all that's happened..

I agree with a few of your points: Peter would be a good coach for Ricky, Ricky at the end wasn't giving Billy the respect he deserved and ricky and billy wouldn't work again, Billy has actually stated on here on more than one occasion that he won't take Ricky back.

I disagree about him moving back to Super Feather though, he was killing himself for years making that weight and imo Lightweight is where he needs to be but getting back to basics and boxing to his strengths.

Ricky has looked a bit off over the last couple of years and it might be down to a few things:

1. Changing promoters and the court cases that followed the move
2. Wiping out Kevin Mitchell and believing he had found a big punch and that stopped him training to his strengths
3. Not fully recovering mentally from the broken jaw

I think Ricky still has the desire and moving to London away from his family at 30 proved this and imo if he can get his head back in the game after the court cases, gets back to what he does best and maybe sees a sports psychologist.

Ricky could challenge again at World level but i'm not sure if he could have anywhere near the same impact as he did a few years ago and maybe Domestic/Euro level is where he will still be effective

david asking Ricky to make SFW is like asking Ronnie to make SBW both are far to big to do that weight , Ricky has said he struggles to make LW so SFW is out the question

 

The ability is there with Ricky. Is he getting the right type of sparring? He seems to switch off in fights now.

 

Ricky has always had top sparring mate, the who's who of British boxing has came to glasgow to spar him.

 

I'm good mate what about yourself? Did the family have a good Christmas. Yes I agree would be a struggle to get to Super Feather but unless things change big style he's just going to get outgunned at the top level at lightweight or light welter saying that I think he has the beating of Abril. If Hearn was smart he would make that one

 

I think the struggling to make The weight is a bit of laziness and liking the finer things in life made Ricky start to struggle. I know if Ronnie really wanted he could go down to featherweight maybe even SBW he is about the same size as Frampton. In saying that I believe fighters should fight were they are comfortable and not boil themselves down. Problem with Ricky at lightweight is the only vulnerable champion is Abril. I think RICKY can beat him but it's another pressure fighter. He would need to fight like the way he did v Martinez

 

I think he looks as if he has lost confidence and a bit of desire/motivation. He might still love to box and train harder than most. Ricky was never blessed with the greatest ability or power, he did very very well with the talents he had. But all it takes is a 5-10% small drop in desire as a result of having been there, done that, got a wee bit of cash... and the loss in confidence from a few shaky performances and the injury against Beltran and that makes a massive difference to a fighter who was never heads and shoulders above the rest with ability anyway.

Look a Ricky that magical night against Martinez- he would have died in that ring, he boxed perfectly, stuck to his gameplan. Compare that to some of his last few outings- he's a completely different fighter now- something is clearly missing that was once there.
