Agreed, Joe wasn't nothing special when faced off against a 43 yearold legend, I had him winning by a point or two, for as many punches as he threw, he rarely caught Hopkins with anything powerful, most of the punches Calzaghe landed, Zelenoff would of been able to walk through.

 

Boxing has a history of the "faded legend" meeting the reigning Champion late in the Legend's career.

The result has usually been the same.

JoeCal won this fight.....Bernard should have fought him when he had all his guns to bring to the table.

 

Thats true, Holyfield/Lewis or Holmes/Tyson are examples of it. I was pretty surprised that Hopkins made the fight that close, while also flooring him with one punch in the first round. I feel Calzaghe won on workrate alone, Calzaghe landed nothing of significance the whole fight, thats why the scores are so varied. It does seem alot of boxing experts had Hopkins winning the fight, it was close scoring on my card as well.

 

Calzaghe is not at his prime either. He beat Hopkins, and I don't see Hopkins beating him a few years ago either.

What he means is that if hopkins was joe's age it would have been a beat down, joe would not last 5 rounds with a prime hopkins. People like you take up for joe but no matter what you can't argue that point because you know its true

Frank warren only decided to bring Joe accross the Pond because Hopkins is 43.

Anyone with 1/4 of a brain cell knows Hopkins would probably win by murder if this fight happened years ago.


Joe is the perfectly managed fighter.

 

Then why did Hopkins bottle it 5 years ago...which he pretty much admitted to.

 

theres no need for ifs and buts because if you know boxing then you know hopkins won.

 

did you or any other american know who calzaghe was at this point, the fight made no sense business wise calzaghe hadnt beaten anyone of note and hopkins was pursuing bigger purses and a rjj rematch

If the fight was 5 years ago your also talking about a far better verision of Calzaghe.. throwing power shots.

Back then Hopkins might actually take a step forward and make it a fight, which suits Joe more.
