Well, SOME people thought the only fight worth mentioning the past couple of days was Narvaez-Inoue and ironically enough, Narvaez was basically a 10-1 underdog in that fight. And it showed. That fight was basically an unmitigated disaster and Narvaez will likely have a hometown fight before calling it quits. But goddamn was it a mismatch. According to some people, in no way shape or form was Yaegashi supposed to lose to Guevara. But he did. In fact, he got poleaxed pretty badly for the 2nd fight in a row. Which just goes to show how important all title fights are. They mean something to the fighters especially because, well, you know, because they are fighters and they fight for titles and such. It's too bad certain individuals want to cast dispersions on certain fights because they feel that they are somehow above reproach for whatever reason(s). When in fact they have no idea what it really takes to be someone who literally puts their life at risk for the glory of becoming a champion. Rossell-Taguchi is yet another fight that was deemed as yet another title fight that did not matter but don't tell that to the 28-year-old Taguchi who dethroned favorite Alberto Rossel. I think that title shot meant the world to Taguchi and he got to earn it while knocking down Rossel twice in the fight on his way to a UD. And the Jimenez-Kono fight ended up being a DRAW. A fight that Kono was a huge favorite in and yet was dismissed as being an easy win for Kono. Good thing they actually fought so we could know for sure. And perhaps the biggest oversight with regard to these recent Japanese cards is the Rigo-Amagasa fight. Rigo was supposed to cruise. Easy win. Huge favorite. Turned out it was the hardest fight of Rigo's career where he was down twice and obviously visibly hurt in this fight which he did struggle in. I think it's fair to say that Amagasa really wanted the WBO and WBA titles Rigo had, and it's a good thing they fought even though some people thought the fight was a foregone conclusion. Which just goes to show that you should watch what you say because it could very well come back to bite you in the ass. Narvaez-Inoue wasn't the only worthwhile fight at the end of this year no matter what anybody said. Title fights matter. Don't be so vapid and obtuse to believe that they do not. Because if you do, then you're a hinderance to the sport.
For the record I picked Guevara and Taguchi for the upsets, and gave Amagasa a decent chance at one. And I should have gone with my initial choice of Inoue but I reconsidered.
One other thing other than you and I, IB, Robney, Pinoy Prodigy, takahiro-onaga, Boxing Prospect and maybe a few others, most of the people on this site have no idea who most of these guys are with the exception of Rigo. And probably don't care. In terms of significance and relevance nothing aside from Inoue Narvaez mattered in the grand scheme of things to most regular boxing fans and even then most have never heard or at the very least care about them, its not necessarily right but, it is what it is.
Who have Taguchi as under dog? Only ****ing idiot, that who. Taguchi very clear favourite over 39 year old Peruvian on cash out trip. Also Inoue finally get attention of boxing world. Not normal for 115 man.
Some of the best cards of the year have fallen on New Years Eve in Japan for several now. Nothing new here... There was like 9 title fights in a 36 hour span. Whoever didn't pop a stiffy over names like Uchiyama, Yaegashi, Ioka, Kono, and others just don't know about them. I think the reasons why some people didn't care as much is because many people are open in admitting they don't follow weight classes below 147 or 135. Some people also choose to only follow Western fighters. And others, even fans of these fighters, probably realized that most of the cards were indeed mismatches and for the most part they did play out that way. And the holidays aren't exactly a time of year with tons of free time and void of obligations, so there is that to factor as well.
I wish a company would subtitle the foreign fights in English so I could follow what the commentators are saying. It might be good and add to the fight, but as it is it's just annoying noise. Every year, it's the same ****. Half of the best fights happen outside of the US and nobody does anything about it. We got youtube a couple of years ago so at least we can see some of them now, but what about the rest of it? I think a subtitle company like they do with Anime could really make fighters international stars instead of just local celebrities.
In Japan I guess all the big fights come off on new years. In Mexico and the US, it's Cinco De Mayo. In Thailand, they have all the best muay thai fighters square off on the king's birthday. I wonder what the big day in Germany and Russia for this sort of thing is? I heard they got a thing called Boxing Day in Britain, but it's not what you'd think it is.
Give it a rest, Wild. Even though I picked Guevara and Taguchi, too, I find your continued insistence on crowing about how right you were to be a bit annoying- and I'm pretty certain I'm not the only one to feel that way. Kind of makes you a target the next time you pick wrong as well.
You are targeting a poster in an attempt to somehow show superiority in prediction skills or to somehow prove you are more of a die hard fan... we get it. Put it to rest now. Glad you enjoyed the show. Many others did too! Many others didn't, unfortunately for them. Good predictions. Many others got them right too! And many others didn't, unfortunately for them. And that is all there is to say about it. Not some waste of a thread about some pointless ranting about not enough people in your opinion appreciating a good fight card.
I have to admit that I don't know much at all about the Japanese fighters.... and I like to think Im a pretty diehard fan (which Im sure that title has now been revoked by many at the sight of me saying I don't know many Japanese fighters lol) By the sound of many its something Im missing out on and hopefully when my life frees up a bit more n I have more opportunity to watch fights Ill be able to enjoy that scene... sounds like its a region of boxing not to be overlooked.
It's about b.s. cavalier attitudes towards fights that were in fact significant. And it isn't pointless ranting when said individual thinks he's some kind of f____ expert when it's pretty clear that he is not. In a nutshell, I found it very disrespectful considering the person who said it. What it comes down to is arrogance on this person's part and not being able to admit when he's wrong. And he was wrong. And it has f___ all to do with MY predictions...this ain't about predictions you ****.
