Its up to himself whether he let himself down or not.

Im not sure how someone who is not him, can say whether he let HIMSELF down!

As for T****nd, im guessing in the 30k range if the field is used.

He can accept whatever he wants really,I'd say he wants to reach out and gather the support of the whole of N.Ireland and this looks like been a good move to start although its possible he might lose the republican support.Possible he may have been advised to take it by his management....

Maybe with a load of people on the pitch it might damage the surface.

The reality is is that he'll have done then opposite.

Loyalists already think he's a wee Spidey Fenian ****, all he's done now is alienate both sides.

There are perfectly good reasons to turn down a 'Royal Honour'. If Paddy was being advised well then he should've been advised to quietly decline it when approached to see if it would be accepted if offered, which I believe is the protocol.

He's best mates with Carl Frampton, surely all the loyalists don't hate him. He doesn't seem to come across as a bigot.

We're you at Framptons last fight outdoors? We were nearly perished with the cold, no kidding. Even Barry McGuigan himself said the same on the night. No surprises Frampton has moved back indoors for Avalos. Boxing is an indoor sport for a reason. :good

....and there are equally good reasons to accept one!
Fair dues to paddy Barnes either way.
As for the people he will have 'alienated',...they would just be fair_weather friends anyway. He's as well off rid of 'em. :bbb

As for the location of Andys next fight...it's not important really. What matters is the opponent. ****** seems to have a good record of getting his fighters "home" Advantage...more so than hearn anyway.

Remember Andy only got his shot because Wazzen lobbied for him to face Korobov. Andy was only number 4 or something like that in WBO ratings. Canny ***** wanted the title in "safe" hands while BJS took time out to fight CEJ. So BJS is already overdue his shot. That situation with CEJ was an exceptional one-off. But now that it's out of the way, why should he postpone winning a world title any further? Coz let's face it BJS will fancy his chances against Andy.

With a title in his hot little hands BJS would be in the driving seat regarding negotiations for a CEJ rematch. (Or any other fight for that matter). Everything changes in Boxing when you come to the table as champion, holding a title. As champ, he would get 75% of the loot. It's not in BJS interests to delay a fight with Andy Lee. So he will enforce his mandatory position - you can count on it, barring some extreme issue arising such as an injury or extreme terror of Andys right hook....but I doubt that.

Are you telling me that BJS will have seen anything in Andys performance against Korobov to terrify him? Never mind Andys form in his other recent fights. Even assuming Andy can reproduce his Korobov form against BJS (And that Korobov fight was by far Andys best performance for years). BJS has the skills to not get nailed like Korobov, and the toughness and guile to survive and still come back to win anyway even if he does get nailed.

Andys only chance is that EVERYBODY goes the full 12 with BJS. He just doesn't have a punch. Never mind one to hurt a teak-tough guy like Andy Lee. Andy will have the full 36 minutes to land the go-home punch. That is a big psychological advantage going into a fight, knowing your opponent can't hurt you. But in all other departments it's advantage Billy Joe Saunders IMO.

fair weather friends:huh...we are talking about members of his own family he has alienated...people who would always have been there for him regardless whether he had become a olympic bronze medalist or a guy signing on in the dole queue...len and stb u are from the free state so dont probably have a handle on northern nationalist but out of all the irish boxers in recent years i could identify more with paddy barnes as he like myself is from a republican family ...his uncles did time in the H Blocks as did my father and uncles... and it was great to see one of our own representing Ireland and being proud of his roots... but what he has done here is nothing short of shameful... and its something he cant take back... he will be ridiculed by this decision the rest of his life [not by all but by a lot of the people that did matter in his life]... its a sad day when any irish man thinks its a progressive move to accept any honour from the Queen of Britain particularly an honour that glorifies in their barbaric and turbulent Empire days ... do we still need patted on the head and told "well done" by the british establishment...come on lads catch a grip here:patsch... its time we stood on our own 2 feet and and were masters of our own destiny [ i feel a song coming on :D].... and got the brits completely out of our affairs once and for all.:good

I DO sympathise with you Fra, I really do. It IS a tough one to swallow no doubt. But lots of people have had to compromise in lots of ways. Look at the Good Friday Agreement. You think that was an easy -sell for Gerry? He is now competing in elections down here. Gerry is now a TD in the "free state" Parliament....one of the most corrupt rotten institutions in one of the most corrupt Banana Republics North of the equator. That's tough for some people to accept. Etc etc etc

Now stop calling me a "free stater."....that's like me calling you a Fenian! All that is 100 years out of date. I remember Paisley using that sort of rhetoric and lots of people died because of it.

If Paddy is going pro he has a right to market himself as best he can to the bigger mainland UK audience to maximise his earnings etc Don't deny him that.

What Catholic nationalist athletes were offered MBEs and turned them down? Can you name any? Recent ones, not back in 1973?

Yes it is frustrating, and I know how you feel, but I still think but you should continue to support him.
