Pacquiao didn't even phone Torrecampo in their catchweight title fight. The smaller Torrecampo still KTFO Pacquiao for cheating on the scales. It was a money fight for JMM and a tune up fight for Floyd. You act like it was for a title or something. What is there to force? I'm sure JMM spars with much bigger guys than Floyd. The only thing you can blame Floyd for is he's TBE. He can't help that.
Marquez said he was told atleast 1/2 weeks before the fight about the weight. Maybe I'm the only one but I never heard anyone actually involved with the fight say it was supposed to be at 144 (GBP, May, or JMM) people just assumed so. Look Marquez felt the only way he was gonna fight Pac again was to move up and beat Floyd he tried it didn't work credit for attempting it.
How could he have? Floyd was the A side meth Marquez had no choice Marquez obviously put the fear of death in Floyd. As if bringing shot JMM up 2 divisions wasnt enough he still refused to even try to make weight Prime JMM would have boxed Floyds head off
Doubt it would have made a difference but yes he should have made Floyd make the weight that they agreed on.
Don't like catch weights full stop. Should have been at 147 or 140. Don't think it made much difference but it was a cheap move by Mayweather.
I assume that was his biggest payday ever, plus he got an extra 600 grand, plus he was SUPPOSED to lose. So he had everything to gain from fighting and nothing to lose.
This fight was a tune up for Floyd...he had not fought in over two years....this fight is no different than his fight with Robert Guerrero ....it's a tune up....a tune up.....When Mike Tyson got out of Jail he fought Peter McNeely......rarely...and I mean rarely are there ever super fights made with one fighter having not fought in years.....Most fighters take an easy fight as their comeback fight....it's just how boxing is....... The only reason why you guys harp on this fight is because you think that JMM may be equal to Floyd in some way because of how he dominates Pac...... Floyd and Pac are two different Animals.....You guys are aware that lesser fighters than Marquez have knocked out Pac.....get over your man crush....
Okay... Anyway, back to the subject. Should Marquez have made Floyd lose the weight and would it have made a difference?
Marquez was not going to cancel his biggest fight because of 2lbs, especially when he got paid $600,000 extra. Marquez is a brave warrior , but even Marquez would admit that Floyd was just too good.
I don't believe it would of made the difference. The fact is Floyd doesn't struggle making 144, and probably couldn't be bothered to make 144. $600,000 penalty to Floyd is nothing. It's not fair though that Floyd can get away with such acts just because he's rich. A penalty like that means nothing to Floyd.
You dont really know that. Mayweather let DLH know days in advance that he was'nt going to make the contracted weight. The reason why Mayweather voiced to DLH was because he wanted him to contact Marquez so they can draw up new contracts with the weight stipulated at the full 147 lbs limit. DLH then contacted Marquez' camp and let them know what the dillema was. My understanding was that there were allready weight penalties for Mayweather to hand over to Marquez for each lbs over. The reason for Mayweather to contact DLH was that with the contract stating 144 lbs limit, Mayweather aside from what he had to fork over to Marquez, would also be fined over 1 million dollars by the NSAC for going over the contracted weight limit. Since Mayweather was going to go over the limit anyways, Marquez was offered more money to sign a new contract so a big chunk of Mayweather's purse would'nt be taken away by the NSAC. Marquez really was at the mercy of GBP and having to believe anything and everything that was being told to them. Would it have made a difference? Probably not much, but we really dont know for sure. For Mayweather to contact DLH days in advance means he was'nt on target as far as making the 144 lbs weight limit and was worried about it. Mayweather is'nt accustomed to cutting alot of weight close to the fight and it likely would have weakened him more than somebody that is accustomed to such weight cutting. Who's to say that Mayweather would not have been effected dropping those 2 lbs and walked into the ring not as sharp and physically affected where a fighter as good as Marquez could have taken advantage of. Cutting 2 lbs to a fighter as lean and chiseled as Mayweather is, is'nt easy, especially when he's not accustomed to cutting such weight. Those 2 lbs possibly could have made a difference against a Mayweather who may have not been as quick, fast, and as strong as he did come in at.
