I agree that Manny's technique is super sloppy but still, it's gotten him over 50 wins because it's really hard for people to figure out and prepare for. It took Marquez 4 fights to figure it out.

 

- He is champ in 8 different weight classes. (Nobody beats this)
- Congressman and a major political influencor in a country of 100+ million people (Nobody beats this)
- A father of 5 beautiful children (Holyfield beats this)
- A computer game was named after his nickname when he was 2 years old.

that still wouldn't take away from him being great because your great is measured by your prime. Not how you were towards the end of your career..... look at RJJ.


Skill wise he's probably top 10 or something but his technique wasn't all that. He was just a freak of nature. Now he sucks and gets knocked out like khan but nobody talks about his career now, people just consider his prime.

Imo, it's hard to name a boxer the Goat unlike in some other sports.

In Basketball, it's unanimous that Jordan is the goat, he beat everyone. In F1 racing it's Senna, he not only beat more than a handful of world champs, he demolished them in outright speed by killing them in pole positions. In boxing, it's rare to have champs fight other champs, and that's if we're lucky to have an era where there are champs in the same division.

 

I don't think technique matters in terms of greatness. If you were asking if he's the best, that's a definite no and his technique comes into play. To me, greatness is a measure of defying odds. The best is a measure of skill.

No. Not by a wide margin and I'm a huge Manny fan.

I won't knock anyone for having him in their top 20 or 30, myself he hovers around d 25ish. If he beats Floyd then top 15 comfortably, beats him again in a rematch then it's solid top 10.

After that it's really really tough to move up in that list, moving down and unifying the 140 belts would just cement his #10 spot. To move further up he'd have to accomplish monumental feats; beat Khan convincingly, win against Cotto/Canelo winner at legit MW weight then a fight against GGG.

Anything but a KO loss to GGG would be positive for Pacquiao, hell just getting in the ring with no catchweight is enough to score points for me.

If he does all 3 then I could agree with a top 5 standing.

Ali's Greatness and fame is very much related to his political activities and his social and public impact. Pac Man is a congressman and a father of 5 children so he should get even more extra credit for the things outside of the ring than Ali did. Because they are way more respectable than than going voluntarely in the prison to not defend your country and turn into a muslimist fanatic during that time.

On the whole multiple weight classes thing: Was Henry Armstrong not Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight Champion all at the same time?

In a time that there was only one world title belt per weight class.

AND there was no Super featherweight, and Light welterweight. So to these days he was really champion over 5 weight classes at the same time.

Without the opportunity to pick up belts from different organizations.
