People around here under rate Trinidad so hard because they completely choose to ignore that Tito at 147 was actually a very skilled puncher who could move and knew how to use his body size to win fights. These are people who think any fighter with fast hands will beat the guy and automatically equate a fighter with speed as a fighter with defensive skills! These are also people who choose to ignore that because of Trinidad's punching ability he was able to jump up to 154 and 160lbs because once he moved up he pretty much beat his opponents out of raw power.
Definitley, they underrate Tito's 147 version because they have experienced the more 1 dimensional version that was first whipped to pieces by Hopkins, then Wright, then looked bad vs. Roy. Has little to do with how good he was at 147, a decent H2H fair there also, top 10 and Welter is a rich division no doubt in history. Basically, if you aren't a top level tactical boxer with a great defence(and some size and power mind you), you will have your hands full with Trinidad because he's quite excellent at what he does and brings the pain all the same. Everyone impressed with Cotto ought to watch some prime Tito, he was much better IMO against a superior crop of opposition. Makes me laugh when people favour Joy Boy so heavily over him prime to prime, I personally don't see how Joy Boy doesn't get KOed... win some rounds sure, but Tito is going to be connecting there because he'd have been the most accurate puncher that Joy Boy would have faced.
This would a very good fight. I would have to go with Mosley by UD. I could see Trinidad landing his big left hook at times and having his moments by landing some very good shots, but I think Mosley would be on his toes a bit more for this fight and just tries to out box Trinidad which I see him doing successfully.
tough fight to call... couldve gone either way both are my 2 of my fav fighters..but there is a size diff. an speed always bothered tito... He needs u to stand and trade. Mosely is super fast in out. But tito can land dynamite! To tough to call I agree pick em fight . 50/50
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, you guys thought Forrest hurt him at 147, this would have been career ending type **** for Mosley here.
Dont get me wrong Im not trying to suggest that Shane is an unskilled fighter. He wouldnt have got as far as he did without a high skill level. I just dont think the way he fights will not do the job in this fight. I think of a lot of times where he has made fundamental errors that I interpreted as lack of technical ability. De La Hoya II, Vargas I, Forrest fights, Wright, Cotto, Holiday and to a lesser extent the Rivera & Estrada fights. Just the way I see it, I have a high standard when it comes to what I consider a high level of technical proficiency. Might I add though I think Shane just might even fall into that category, but I think Tito is just a little better at it, add his physical advantage and this is a hard fight for Shane to win. I disagree that Cotto and Tito are "very very" simliar. There are some stark differences that incidently would play a part, IMO, in a fight between Mosley and Felix. Height being one of them, its that distance that I think Shane would have a hard time covering once he felt Tito's power. Miguel had to stand in Shane's punching range for a lot that fight because he was shorter and Shane's right over the top found a home on many occasions, something I see happening less against a taller Tito. I also think pure technical skill is not what prevented Cotto from walking through Mosley. I think Shane is just one of the hardest men to lace them up in recent memory, not to mention his power kept Miguel honest. Plus Cotto's lack of stamina, (he likes to have a rest in most of his longer fights) allowed Shane to finish stronger after looking very worse for wear in the mid rounds. I also feel Felix doesnt allow this to happen, he has always been very strong in the last 1/3 of a fight.
:huh Mosley is 5'9 with a 74 inch reach. Tito is 5'11 with a 72 inch reach. Titos taller but he bends his knees alot and doesnt fight tall. You basicallu just compared Trinidad to Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright which is downright commecial. Tito doesnt have a consistent or authorative jab like those guys do. If Shane uses his combos and footwork he would take Tito to school somewhat like DLH did just closer because Shane will give Tito chances to hit him but Tito never KOed anybody on a elite level with a great chin. Plus Shane would keep it up later in the fight the mans ability in rounds 8-12 is vastly underatted he fights his ass off and even at 36 hes still doing vs younger fighters. Mosley wins a SD. This was my all time dream match im so pissed it never happened.
:rofl So let me guess "elite fighters with 'great chins'" are supposed to get KTFO? It doesn't matter how great your chin is, if you survive with a prime trinidad its because of your gameplan you gotta stylistically challenge the guy. Tell me what in Mosley's game will trouble Trinidad? His hand speed? Is that whats going to win the fight for him? When was Mosley ever a homerun hitter at 147lbs, he was a very respectable puncher but not amazing hard!? Please man, Trinidad's stamina was unending at 147lbs and he was very quick with his own hands with immense power. Tito threw way to many hard ass punches in his prime, Mosley may have the hand speed to make Tito a little uncomfortable but Mosley more than likely would stand straight up and remain in Tito's range to get hit. You couldn't afford to get hit with Trinidad at that weight, there is a reason that Oscar fought the way he did...Their fight would have been absolutely brutal if they were to fight Toe to Toe. But in the end I am angry too that this fight never came off, I'm not saying Tito woulda blown him out! This fight would have been a WARRRR and Mosley would definitely leave his heart and soul in the ring with Trinidad no doubt about it...But I don't see how Mosley doesn't get hurt.
So let me guess "elite fighters with 'great chins'" are supposed to get KTFO? Well when picking are picking Tito to KO Shane a proven great fighter with a proven chin I wanna know why and who hes KOed to make people believe he can do it. I noticed 2 people above mentioned Vargas whos chin was never great and Mayorga who has a great chin but isnt a elite level fighter. :huh When did I say Mosley was a puncher ? Did I pick him by KO ? You say his hand speed then quickly turn to his power. Trinidads chin was never anything special Shane could easily score a flash KD. Your dam right his speed would trouble him 2000 Shane threw lots of combos body and head Trinidad would just get confused like he usually does and he wont adapt or he will just low blow Mosley. This fight would have been a WARRRR and Mosley would definitely leave his heart and soul in the ring with Trinidad no doubt about it...But I don't see how Mosley doesn't get hurt Tito had great stamina yes but so did Mosley. Show me one fight especially in his prime where Shanes is struggling at the end of any fight. Mosley fought Oscar straight up and took everything he had and just fine aswell. Titos a great puncher but he isnt much more a puncher then Oscar im sure you will disagree but I dont really give a **** ive watched countless fights of both men and watched both men take on quality guys and make them go to **** with single punches.
So Tito has a glass chin and Mosley would knock Trinidad down enough times to win the fight by a decision? Even though Tito went 12 rounds getting caught by a harder combination puncher in DLH and never went down. He fought a war with Fernando Vargas and went down off a very hard counter left hook a punch where Vargas put his entire 154+lb frame into that punch, yet Tito got up almost instantly. He went 12 BRUTAL rounds with Bernard Hopkins at 160lbs, got caught by an absolutely ridiculous counter right hand, and still had enough in his legs to wobble up despite his father throwing in the towel. And you think Mosley honestly could batter Trinidad like that? Considering the fact that when you're fighting a power puncher it will make you hesitant with your own output and power, thats just how it is. No..I don't see it happening. What I see happening is Mosley staying in the pocket trying to rip hooks against an opponent with some of the best hooks in the game, a guy that was 5'11 much bigger and although Tito couldn't match Mosley with combination speed, Tito's one punch speed was impressive at that weight and he for sure would connect with Mosley. What I see is Mosley getting reckless with his fast wild shots as Trinidad takes his half step back as he looks down upon his smaller man waiting for the right time to throw and connect his very accurate and fatal punches. Mosley who always lacked defense and struggled with tall fighters would have gotten wrecked IMHO, and I know Mosley would leave his heart and soul out in that ring...It would have been IMO the best fight of the 90s at 147lbs, but there is no doubt in my mind that this is a bad match up for Mosley.
Once agian you put words in my mouth saying I said Trinidad had a glass jaw. You remind me of the women in my family so im now just going to ignore you like I do them.
I was thinking the exact same thing. You really have to look at shane vs oscar to get a glimpse of what shane vs tito would look like. And shane Mosley at welterweight was a force beyond recognition. I really wished he would have stayed in that weight class his whole career. It was best suited for him rather than junior middle where they were just too big. and if you remeber hopkins vs tito, bernard was landing with his overhand right all night. Shane's right hand is is best weapon.
