When did pads first start to be used in boxing training by trainers?.. i cannot recall ever seeing trainers/fighters pre 1990s using pads in their training camps. Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Leonard, Hearns etc did those fighters trainers use pads in training camp ?

been used forever in one form or another I think, just another trainers tool. we used them when I boxed in the 80's, even saw them used in rocky 2 last night that was in 1979. I would think that hitting the trainers hands probably even pre dated the heavy bag.

i doubt what you are claiming here.. i had never ever seen them before until the 1980s, they certainly were not used in my amateur club or other clubs in the 60s and 70s. i have also never seen footage of them being used only during the last 25yrs or so.

I've seen pictures going back to the 20s of trainers with boxing gloves on their hands, backwards, and catching punches.
