With the new rules out there is going to be a few promotors disappear. No criminal records will shed a few. What next fighters with no records?
You will just end up with more "sponsors" of events like Mick Gatto. Its bulls*t, if your not locked up why exactly cant you make an honest buck, help out fighters and pay taxes?
It was brought in by former government to keep Gatto out of the game. Current government may very well review such requirement & as promised will allow cage fighting
These are our boxing authorities current rules. I hear a few shows are already canned for 2015. A lot of our current promotors are not going to get new licence.
criminal record automatically = no license? that's a bunch of BS!!!! Of course boxing needs to be a clean and respectable sport but world wide it has always been and likely will always be a sport that has provided a way for people who are down or stuck on the wrong side of things to turn themselves around and make a better life for themselves. painting the issue of who should get a license and who shouldn't in such a black and white fashion is ridiculous! Surely they can come up with some reasonable way to assess everyone individually?
f**k me dead. Khoder Nasser and J.Manikolos are 2 of the shiftiest kents around and have made Australia a laughing stock internationally. Oh but they don't have criminal records so carry over points, dodgy rankings and doctors and disappearing rounds are A OK as they don't have criminal records.:good lol @ Aussie boxing.
Not to many shows down for nsw so far this year. you can forget golden belt or whatever he calls himself hes gone. will he pay the people still owed from his last show now?
Just because you have a criminal record does not mean you cant obtain a promoters license, the new law is basicly a fit and proper person test, its similar to obtaining a security license. You can have no criminal record but if you are a person of interest to the police or and a person of questionable character, then they can knock you back. Its not just aimed at the sport of boxing either, the new legislation is also linked to keeping away undesirables (as they put it) from casino and racecourses.
Just ban boxing in Australia. All the fighters are bums, all the promoters are criminals and all the commentators are cringeworthy.
