Terrifying performances

    I wanna know about when you've watched a fight and thought that a fighter looked absolutely unbeatable, preferably performances when the fighter has destroyed their opponent when it was close to a pick em fight.
    I'll start:

    Jack Dempsey vs Jess Willard- I read about this fight and thought it sounded like a horrific beating, but actually watching the footage after you heard how much damage Willard took was insane. How he wasn't killed I'll never know, I 've never seen a fighter as vicious as Dempsey was in that fight.

    Hearns vs Duran- This to me is Hearns most exciting performance, at what I believe was his peak. Nobody destroyed Roberto like Tommy did either before or after this fight, and the finishing right cross is my favourite knockout punch of all time.

    Tyson vs Spinks- Tyson at his absolute peak. I know not many people expected Spinks to win, but I can't imagine anyone expected him to be demolished in the fashion he was against Tyson. This was Mike's crowning achievement in my eyes, and he never looked any better before or after it.

    Any others?

    Tell you what, a suprising number of people picked Spinks (including our own Chris Pontius).

    I'll add Robinson in his sixth encounter with LaMotta. Not exactly a 50.50, but LaMotta held a victory over Sugar, and Jake was the champion of the world and the bigger man. Robinsons work rate may be unparalleled and his backfoot assualt of LaMotta is perhaps absolutley unique. The closing seconds are as terrifying and brutal in all sorts of ways, if you haven't seen it, track it down.

    Tyson vs Spinks sure (though the Berbick fight was a fantastic, measured and yet devestating blowout too).

    Nice mention of Robbo vs LaMotta VI.

    Lewis' destruction of Golota is a very underrated win.

    How about Napoles defeating Griffith on the scorecards in such convincing fashion?

    Whitaker's showing against Ramirez in their rematch. It wasn't terriying in terms of the end results when Whitaker landed his punches, but it certainly was as a spectacle. The mother of all dominations. I doubt Pep ever done the same to a journeyman never mind a world class opponent.

    Workrate, accuracy, inside fighting, long range boxing, ring generalship, speed, and stamina. He was running into the red on them all.

    But he got beat in the end. He was fighting like a man possessed and was impressive while it lasted, but he was remembered for losing the fight afterall. If it was so terrifying he would have stopped Eubank or won on points.

    I think the hearns performance v cuevas was comparable with the duran one. Beautiful use of feints,elusive head movement,darting in and out with feet and hands,super jab,speed,constant pressure,use of height and reach and the best right cross the welter (or 154 division.) has ever seen. All at 21 years old in his first title fight against a long reigning,rock fisted,granite chinned champion....
    Enough adjectives in there?! Never tire of the fight or the final two blistering punches.

    Louis-Buddy Baer II. Not only was it a technically perfect single-round destruction, but Louis did it all while being totally unemotional and precise. Even as he had his man gone, he kept his temper and was coldly picking his next combination.

    Foreman-Frazier: The most impressive perfomance ever against an ATG reasonably close to his peak IMO.

    Maybe the last fight between Zale and Graziano deserves a mention. Zale was utterly dominant in that fight.

    Liston's two demolishen jobs of Patterson aren't half bad either...
