Okay, great but you're looking at legacy. I want to know who you think would win based off of skill, ability, and savy

Duran by clear UD, Mayweather would have some moments and does enough to go the distance I think but not enough to beat the man with the hands of stone.

I'll just repeat what I've said before:

The 'Duran from Montreal' fought a 23 year old champion who, in a monumental error, decided to fight flat footed due to falling for Duran machismo bullisht.

And that fight was still scored close (with the New York Times having Leonard as the winner.)

A few months later, using tight defense, foot movement, strong counterpunching off the backfoot, and taunting that fighter so frustrated Duran that he no longer wanted to compete.

If a hypothetical matchup between Mayweather and Duran took place, it is likely that Mayweather would fight in a similiar fashion to Leonard II, while never falling for Duran's prefight machismo mindgames.

While this is no guarantee that Mayweather would win, to act like Mayweather can't compete and just gets streamrolled is silly.

    YMMV.

Duran is a ATG but gets very overrated and very beatable a host of fighter could beat the Montreal Duran as well. He had problems with speed and movement people like to act as if he's invincible because they fall in love the machismo. They also love to make every excuse in the book when he lost but make him into a God in his victories you can't have it both ways.

On the subject of PBF-Duran I think PBF would beat Duran because of his speed and movement he wouldn't fight Duran's fight and would have no problems with fighting off his back foot to frustrate Duran.

This is partly true and partly bull ****. First of all, SRL fought the fight Duran dictated. He even said so himself and he also said in the second round Duran hit him so hard it took him 3 rounds to recover.

Secondly, SRL himself said that he knew Duran was parting and wasn't going to be in very good shape for a rematch and that's why he insisted on having one in November knowing that Duran weighed in excess of 180lbs at the time.

This is well documented by SRL himself saying pretty much all of this. And lastly, only a relative child of 20-30 would ever compare Mayweather with SRL. SRL had far more power, far more grit and was a superior fighter in every way. SRL is ranked as the 2nd best WW in history. Mayweather, not even close.

This is a quote from SRL's Wikipedia website.

It was, from almost the opening salvo, a fight that belonged to Durán. The Panamanian seized the evening and gave it what shape and momentum it had. He took control, attacking and driving Leonard against the ropes, bulling him back, hitting him with lefts and rights to the body as he maneuvered the champion against the ropes from corner to corner. Always moving forward, he mauled and wrestled Leonard, scoring inside with hooks and rights. For three rounds Durán drove at Sugar Ray with a fury, and there were moments when it seemed the fight could not last five. Unable to get away, unable to counter and unable to slide away to open up the ring, Leonard seemed almost helpless under the assault. Now and then he got loose and countered—left-right-left to Durán's bobbing head—but he missed punches and could not work inside, could not jab, could not mount an offense to keep Durán at bay

And this is SRL on the rematch.

After the Montreal fight Durán went on a partying binge and ballooned in weight. Leonard was aware of this, and in an interview for Beyond the Glory he said: "My intention was to fight Durán ASAP because I knew Durán's habits. I knew he would indulge himself, he'd gain 40–50 lbs and then sweat it off to make 147."

I'm not wiping any losses whatsoever, but you seem to making a silly comparison that SRL and Mayweather are equal in skills which is simply not the case. Mayweather has brittle hands and in fact broke his hands in at least one fight perhaps more. SRL had extremely good power, enough to stop Hearns.

And in terms of what at least one historian thinks, this is his view on where Mayweather ranks as a welterweight

    Welterweight Ratings:
    1. Ray Robinson
    2. Ray Leonard
    3. Mickey Walker
    4. Thomas Hearns
    5. Joe Walcott
    6. Jose Napoles
    7. Kid Gavilan
    8. Emile Griffith
    9. Ted “Kid” Lewis
    10. Luis Rodriguez
Note: Floyd Mayweather’s career does not give him a top 10 spot. Luis Rodriguez, for example, had a better career than Floyd beating Emile Griffith, Benny Paret, Hurricane Carter, Curtis Cokes, Georgie Benton and Bennie Briscoe. I cannot in all honesty put Mayweather in the top 10 welterweights based on a career of hand picked opponents and having never unified a major title. Floyd avoided fights with Mosley, Margarito and Pacquiao when they meant something. He waited for these opponents to slow down and fade before considering facing them. Mayweather just does not have the competition to be considered a true all time great. I am not convinced that Floyd would beat any of the top 10 all time welterweights.

    http://coxscorner.tripod.com/divisional_ratings.html

He then goes on to say when deciding who to include in his all time P4p list

Roberto Duran was the best fighter of my lifetime along with Muhammad Ali and Ray Leonard. He had a peak record of 72-1 and defended the lightweight title 12 times before moving up and winning the welterweight and middleweight titles. He is the only former lightweight champion in history to win a middleweight title.

And as far as Dundee goes, this is another quote from him.

Angelo Dundee said of Duran (SI Jan 30, ’78) “One gets the impression of Duran is that he’s a tough, rough brawler who just wades in and ducks nothing. But all you have to do is look at his face to see that is nonsense. He’s not marked up. He does a lot of cute things in there.”

Not really sure what this proves. Benitez is not on this list and he outboxed Duran (though at a higher weight). Hell, Duran is not on the WW list either.

So, what exactly does this prove?

A couple of things, one is Duran is indeed on the WW list put out by the IBRO and secondly, SRL who was ranked second on both lists, lost only one in his prime and that was to Duran.

Thirdly, unlike Mayweather, Duran is considered top 1-3 on the lightweight list. If nothing else it proves who's better on a p4p basis, not that many honestly believe Mayweather ranks higher, and H2H Duran's got a win against the 2nd best WW of all time, and Mayweather has **** in comparison.

You all say Floyd is overrated, coward, not TBE, not the best defensive fighter, not the fastest, not lthe quickest, not the smartest yet you keep putting him in the ring with ATG's from every era and arguing who would win! You must think more highly of Floyd than you say you do!

Castillo gave Floyd hell two times.Roberto was twice as good as Castillo. You do the maths.
