Jean Pascal vs Sergey Kovalev

    In Montreal, this should be a great fight. I'm not sure if Jean Pascal can win, but he is a crowd-pleasing and could be a very tough opponent for Kovalev. JP knows he can't be reckless and brawl with Kovalev and thinks he can out-box Kovalev. He might be able to if he uses the correct strategy because Kovalev is not known for his defense and JP could counter-punch effectively and wins rounds off his back foot...

    Kovalev is something like Sergio Martinez in his prime. I don't think anyone can beat him before he gets old. Beterbiyev would be a tougher fight for Kovalev and Adonis would bring in loads of money. Jean Pascal will simply get KO'd, he's good, but not that good.

    Pascal is athletic guy with decent pop, but he's all
    over the place. Also, his chin isn't top shelf. I fully
    expect KOvalev to stop him in 6 or less.

    If thats the case then hes gonna get trashed as soon as he gets in with anyone good. As a matter of fact he would have lost to Hopkins :lol:

    Kovalev is a much better fight than Martinez ever was

    I think Jean Pascal is more like Sergio in his prime than Kovalev both in style and level of ability :lol:

    I actually think Pascal beats Stevenson...but not Kovalev. Kovalev not just some one trick pony, dude can box too.

    Tactic success rate is very dependent on what the other guy is doing. JP is not known for being a consistent jabber, which is the conventional wisdom vs a guy like Kovalev with KO power. (to keep him off you)

    However, with JP we know he mostly throws hooks and crosses, or hard straights. At times he's been known (to a fault) to wait and try to land a big punch.

    Early in this fight it might be smart for JP to attempt to use the jab and "run away" trying to set up a big punch, but then as the fight progresses stand his ground and try to use a jab to get inside on Kovalev and push him back.

    Kovalev is not a one trick pony, but he starts the fight the same way usually, trying to walk you down and throw a big punch. If JP just tries to go punch for punch with Kovalev he'll probably get KO'd or will lose rounds. However by using his footwork early to create space between him and Kovalev, he can force Kovalev to reach for JP and miss. That's the key for JP.

    Also in Montreal usually the ring is much larger than most American fights. A larger ring here could help JP a lot.
